| I've had Nikko for a week now, and he's done fairly well considering his age. But all of a sudden, the past 2 days he is constantly going to the bathroom in the house and constantly biting feet and pant legs, much more than normal. He's going every 20-30 minutes it seems. The first week he was pretty good. He had a few accidents here and there, but I could take him out every hour to hour and a half with no issues. now its constant and he keeps biting. What could cause this sudden change in his behavior? I sternly tell him NO, he has plenty of stuff to chew on. I know he's a puppy, but this is crazy. worse than what he's been. |

| I was told by a friend that it could be he's settling in now, so he's not so afraid to be himself. Karli is nipping at feet too and I'm trying to put a stop to that. Can't wait to see what the others say! |

| As far as the biting, they have started teething! They all go through this and it can be very frustrating, but with the right training, you could stop it because you don't want that to turn into mouthing as they get older. What you can do when they bite you is scream "Ouch!" in a high pitch noise so they can know that they hurt you and they won't like that either. It's a common thing that they learn from their litter mates. Also, every time they try, you can give they a toy and when they bite that, you can praise them and let them know that it's ok to bite at the toys. |

| I had a similar issue with Lucian last weekend. I've had him for a month and a half now. Last weekend we decided to go hunting for the weekend. I had my brother in law take care of him while we were gone. Left Friday evening, and came back Sunday afternoon. It seemed Lucian reverted right back to the first few days we had him! He was biting a whole lot more than normal, and peed in the house twice within two hours! I couldn't believe it. Considering he can go quite a few hours without peeing in the house, he makes it through the night, about 7-8 hours with no accidents. I'm wondering if it was caused by an upset in his routine. He was back to normal by the next day though. He's 3 1/2 months old now, and we are still working on the biting. He just won't give it up! Yelling ouch at him does nothing at all, he just keeps on going. You just have to keep at it, until they get it. |

| 3-1/2 months is a more common age for teething. I'm sure Sabaka was right at 4 months when I noticed his front teeth getting loose and falling out. (I know because he chewed a hole in one of my sofa cushions during that phase!)
I think Roxy's friends are most likely correct in their assumption that your pup is just feeling more at home and this is the way he wishes to act! You need to be gentle but firm with your correction of these behaviors. We have had good success with time-outs for nipping and biting. We turned a small half bathroom into a time-out room and would send him there briefly for misconduct. Some of the nipping and biting may be caused by pent up energy. You can help by making sure he is well exercised and play with him often.
The potty training takes time. If you are not getting the previous "accidents" cleaned up well (I recommend an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle), your pup will smell the urine and continue to go there. This may actually make him have more accidents in the house now than when you first brought him home.
Searching for "puppy nipping", "house training" or similar phrases may bring up other threads with good advice. Both of these are very common topics!
These huskies are lots of work but very much worth it! Good Luck!! |

| I got Yuki a couple weeks earlier than normal and a lot of people warned me that she would be mouthy, but she really didn't show any signs until about this age, 12 weeks ish. It was very frustrating, but with patience we prevailed. I first tried the 'ouch' or help thing. Did not work AT ALL with Yuki. She seemed more enticed to bite when I yelped if anything. Then I tried diverting her attention by giving her something else to chew on like a rope or stuffed animal, but she would always go back to my hands. With Yuki it seemed more like a game to bite me so I ended up immediately stopped playing with her and went into the other room for about 20 minutes until she was calm. I would then come back out and eventually she learned biting = no play, not biting = play and attention. Hope this helps, maybe <3 As for the potty training I really can't help though, Yuki pees on her dog bed, her toys, the couch, the pillows.. I'm at a loss with house training because she doesn't seem to care XD |

| Freya did this too for a while. It was like Nikko, only about a week or 2 after I brought her home that she started being a complete butt hole. She tore so many clothes, pant legs, jackets, shirts you name it she wrecked it.
She's not 6 months and foir the past probably 6 weeks she's been an angel! |

| He is a bit young for teething yet, they will usually lose their first tooth right at 16 weeks. But a great thing for teething is a wet face cloth twisted and frozen. If he isn't interested in that you can use beef or chicken stock to wet the cloth. I have also heard frozen carrots are great, but I never tried them. I found through the first few months they go though spurts of extra biting. Find something that works for you, yelping, ignoring, time outs. Not everything works for every puppy.
If you search the topic you will see lots of threads about potty training. I found Char would never give any warning, he would pause and pee without any real obvious sign. I ended up bell training him and that worked really well for us. That being said, at this age you probably need to take him out every 30 mins or so. If you are crate training, this can be a great aid for potty training as well. |

| Welcome to puppy ownership! I know what you're going through, we have two pups both under four months and they can be such a handful, we've had the pulling our hair out moments, the why do they hate us so much moments, but it honestly gets better! We found the first 2-3 weeks were the worst while you're getting used to the pups, changes to your routine etc. Stick with it, remember to take plenty of time to play with him and lots of exercise helps, oh and mental stimulation as well. |

| As far as house training goes, if he's going every 30minutes then you should take him out every 30minutes Evenif last week he was better, you'll find that you may go weeks with no accident and then bam! You feel like you're back to square one, but just keep at it, the more determined and proactive you are the quicker he will learn where to go, when he goes outside, make a big fuss about it! Any unwanted behaviour, in their eyes, is just play... Just leave the room and shut the door behind you, leave it 10-15seconds or until she is calm and comeback inside, he will soon learn that biting your pant legs or your hands stops playtime. With mouthing, you can also yelp, hold their mouth closed with a firm NO etc... but none of this worked with Luka lol!! OH! AND just because the first week was easy, doesnt mean the next YEAR is going to be You're in for a ride, good luck!!! |

| Sounds like some great advice already (especially the part about your pup finally being comfortable enough to show his true colors). . . I would add that sometimes UTI's can cause a dog of any age to start urinating more frequently. So maybe a vet visit to rule that out would be a good idea.
Also, since your pup is still young, make sure you pay really close attention to your pup's signals that they need to go out. For every dog I have had, I can honestly say and will openly admit that the in the house "accidents" were because I wasn't paying good enough attention. Remember your pup can't open the door to let himself out!
As for the biting. . . First welcome to puppy hood. This might be the first round but it definitely won't be the last round. There are lots of great threads on here about how to teach "Bite Inhibition" which is great reading for anyone struggling with a mouthy pup. I even go back and re-read them sometimes to refresh my memory! |

| Sounds like the same "stage" i went through with Kao. She was bitting like crazy, anything and anyone and the potty training was exhausting. I just made sure that everytime i took her out to go potty i took her to the same spot. Eventually she would just go sit by the back door when she had to go. As for the bitting and misbehaving i noticed this went away once i started sociallizing her with other dogs. also, when ever she would bite we would pin her down and make sure she knew that we were the boss and that that behavour was unexceptable. Hope this helps |

| The first 2 months we had Bandit were an absolute nightmare. Crate training was going terribly, peeing in the house constantly, chewed through a phone charger, a pair of slippers, 2 speaker wires and just about destroyed his bed. Consistency is the key. We also learned that smacking his butt when he bit or when he would pee in the house was utterly useless; Bandit thinks its a game. We made some changes to his crate after reading that it needs to feel "den-like"; covered it with a sheet, added a nightlight to the room, put a fan in front (for when it was hot). Those changes worked beautifully! Concerning discipline for biting, we switched to putting him "in his house" whenever he won't stop and he has to be quiet for a full 5 min before we let him out. This type of discipline seemed to work better because he HATES being in his crate when he knows we're walking around the house. We also do "time out" for when he chases or nips at the cat. |
