| So we had our meetup today- went just fine, no problems. As we were getting ready to go a woman is standing with her Great Dane talking to some of the rescue people and some people in the group. Mickey I guess walked up to the Great Dane and "challenged" him by looking at him. She got all freaked out and was like "Who's dog is this?!" I said it was my dog and that he was friendly- no need to panic. She then proceded to tell me about how her dog had never started a fight but had "ended" a good amount of them. Okk? So I said he wasn't aggressive he's not going to start something with your dog. So she starts saying how her dog doesn't like to be "challenged" and my dog "challenging him" is going to start a fight- and her dog WILL finish it. She went on to say how she was just "letting everyone know" so there wouldn't be a problem and to keep my dog away from her dog. So I was seriously confused as to WHY you would bring a dog who can't be looked at into a dog park... I tried to explain to her how "challenging" another dog is totally naturally and takes place a lot during play and WILL happen at a dog park. I'm being very nice and explaining to her how it's not a good idea when there are so many variables you cannot control (like people and dogs) and how letting people know that basically her dog will attack if the dog is looked at puts her in a seriously irresponsible position to continue to bring the dog... But she just refused to listen to me and kept saying the other dog would have "started" it by challenging her dog which leaves her dog completely in the right..... WHAT? Are you serious? That's like saying "my dog doesn't like being sniffed, so keep your dog away from mine. And if your dog sniffs my dog your dog totally would have started it- and my dog will finish it!" It was a 20 minute discussion with about 10-15 people standing around us just listening to this BS before I finally said You know what, good luck convincing everyone and their dog to not allow your dog to be "challenged" and good luck using that as a defense if/when your dog attacks them. I walked away and I just couldn't believe her logic. I was so irritated that people like her even exist or own dogs. AND THEN BRING THEM TO A DOG PARK. On a busy Saturday evening..... /head desk _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | WOW! I have never taken mine to dog parks just because I hate to drive so far to get to one but now, I don't think they are really missing out. SIgh, I mean Willow is probably better off not going. |

| This is why i never bring Kale to dog parks... EVERY time I bring him theres at least 3 dog-aggressive dogs there with their ridiculous owners. Most owners bring TOYS to the dog park as well... talk about a fight waiting to happen. |

| I've been there.
In my dog's case, I drove into a parking lot with Tasha my last husky when I saw a woman standing there with a husky. I took Tasha out of the car and asked her if our dogs could say hello. Her dog was leashed as was mine. She said fine. Her dog then proceeded to bite my dog in the face and cut her lower eyelid. The woman said her dog played "rough" and it was my dog's fault for inciting him. Not a shred of concern for Tasha who had blood running down her face. By the time I got Tasha cleaned up, in my car and came back, the woman had gone. I wanted to get her address so she would pay the vet bill, which was not inexpensive for stitches and disinfecting the wound.
Having a dog or even a husky does not make someone a responsible pet owner. Unfortunately, most aren't. |

| oh i no what you mean. its frustrating ae similar thing happened to Thiago with a pitbull. the owner tryd telling me its in the breed to bite and "finish it" when another dog like mine trys to challenge it. i just said NO its just pitbulls have a bad rep and the two are fine just leave them be its a dog park ok. they were fine just a little growling here and there but mainly rolling around on the ground with each other. but no the guy wouldn't stop going on about how wrong i was and my dog was gonna get hurt soon so i need to take my dog away. it was a never ending battle so i gave up and took Thiago to another area then eventually left thinking some people are just aarrr! |

| Oh man Kristina. That's just too much. Some just really don't get dogs at all. Sorry we missed it. Frankie would have had a field day with that one You know he always finds them. Some people just find any excuse. You had to see some of the people and the dogs they brought to this pet expo today that was loaded with kids and dogs. Frankie was totally overstimulted and going a little nuts with all of the little yappers coming at him. He even did a little dolphin action (which he hasn't done in awhile) at one point. And then he got all snarly and snippy with Ava. I brought him right over to our trainers booth and Shay was more than happy to give us a little "refresher" course right there. All was good after that. |

| Wow, people are idiots. Way to take some responsibility for your pet! Yeah, I'm going to bring my dog, who I think has an aggression issue, to a dog park but then tell other owners to get their dogs away so they don't get hurt. IF YOUR DOG IS THAT BAD DON'T TAKE IT TO A PARK!!!! It's also sad that the lady couldn't take responsibility for her dog biting Tahsa. That's the problem anymore, no one will take responsibility for anything anymore. Everything is someone else's fault, and stand back because I will sue you for my stupidity... _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I was so annoyed that no one else was like stepping up and saying "woah seriously lady?" Phil and Karen were right there. When I walked off im sure she made me out to be some idiot to the people still standing around her. Yep- just trying to keep everyone elses dog from being attacked by a dog with known history... yep yep carry on... I mean what do I know? I've only got 5 dogs and work with about 50 cageless during the day at work.
Im sure this is why people don't like me at the park. I call it like I see it. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| People seriously don't have any common sense, you should meet some of the idiot teenagers who bring their untrained, unsocialized dogs to the dog park here. Both of my dogs have been attacked at the dog park, and it's never been their fault. |

| I met the lady right before we left, as I was saying hello to her dog. She seemed a bit off to me...kinda had a crazy look to her..lol. I don't know, but if that happened to me with Mya I wouldn't blame the other dog who was trying to play or just do normal "dog" stuff. I'd remove her from the park (like I did today) and that's that. Trying to blame somebody elses dog for your dog not liking to be messed with is totally not cool. Not to mention, A HUGE GREAT DANE! Helloooooo! If you know that your dog has had a few issues in the past don't bring him to the dog park. ESPECIALLY since he's freaking huge and could seriously hurt another dog. |

| I hate people at dog parks. Hubby wanted to go the dog park today, but driving by we already saw a ton of people already there. There's always idiots. Especially in LA. Space cadets. Last time, a resource guarding rottie mix bit Frosti on the arm when she wanted to play with him and his ball. Good news was that there wasn't a puncture, but she was limping for a couple of days.
I also had to advise some newbs carrying in their small yappy dog that it probably wasn't a good idea - AND remind them there's a sign at the front prohibiting small dogs. The same time, we had some guy with an aggressive dog tell me he just got him and wanted to socialize him at the dog park. Seriously??? I was very nice and advise him to maybe seek out another venue. I also had to ask a lady to put away her treats (head desk). I try to do it in the politest, most passive aggressive way "Oh, I wouldn't want your dogs to get hurt...."...so they don't get all mad. |

| No! Lol I mean I was honestly being nice and trying to share some information with her but towards the end it seriously felt like I was defending myself! Its like I was being an ass hole for not just listening to her "friendly warning." Whatever lol I handled it just fine but some backup would have been nice. Lol
She was loopy, Mel lol _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| People are idiots sometimes. I had a similar thing happen to me. A guy with a HUGE gray pitt was walking around the dog park. He was the only dog there, so Siku being her young playful self (we didn't have Elara yet, I don't think) went bounding up to say hi and sort of body slammed the pitt (not that hard though, just playfully) and the pitt growls and bites at Siku. And does the guy yell at his dog??? Nope! He tells Siku to not jump on his dog. Really?! You're at a freaking dog park where dogs are going to try to play with your dog. A little while later more people showed up and the pitt attacked a corgi. Pretty scary and they guy finally left after that. _________________ -Sara |

I've just given up on dog parks other than for the meet ups and MAYBE really early in the morning or a day that I took off from work when I know that there won't be too many people there. |

| I had such situationsn alot, even without dog parks here, but there are enough stange dogs with their strange owners. Once Anubis got attacked by a German Shephard that ran up to us and the owner floowed fiv eminutes later and istead of pulling his dog away or something like that he told me let mine off th eleash so he could defend himself. First I just though WTF then I just that Anubis is a trained guide dog and that I´m sure that he wouldn´t be happy to pay me al the oney I invested in his training if he wouldn´t be able to work anymore because of an attack..He still pretended that dogs clear things on their own, then I told him if he wouldn´t get hsi fucked up dog right now I would kick his teeth down his throat. I really don´t understand such tupid people, of course dogs would clear fights on their own but that means one of them is either badly injured or dead. How can you be so iresponsible. Another woman always freaks out when she sees us because she says Anubis bit her dog. He neer bit a dog NEVER, he only wants to play with other dogs and if the other dog is aggressive he ignores them.
The sad thing is we have no dogs besides of one or two we sometimes meet who he can play with. |
