Could someone please explain to Appa that we set our clocks back an hour? The guy is a total task-master. If we aren't up on top, getting dressed on time, or out the door for work on time, he lets us know it. Problem is, he doesn't realize we set our clocks back... Now we're debating do we just change his breakfast time, dinner time, poop time, all of it, to match his biological clock (easy route) or do we push him to adjust? So much for "gaining an hour" ...

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one dealing with this!!!! Haha!! Kody is doing the same exact thing! I was up since 6am yesterday (on a Sunday....ahhh!). Thing is he refuses to go back to sleep after going out to do this business and getting fed. To him it's total play time! Mad

Bodhi is usually awake by 6:30.
This morning, we shut all the curtains in the room with his bed.
It worked and he let us sleep.

I have not hasd a problem yet. I had to wake her up yeaterday and make her go out and then she wanted to go back to bed. I made her go outside with me to do yard work and all she wanted to do was sleep. She has mellowed out so much since she hit 3yrs old. I think she was sleeping by 7:30pm last night. She know we take a late walk each night and then she winds down for the evening, but it was my fault yesterday, We walked at 6pm because it was totally dark already.
Good luck. Smile

Our friends said Ghost and Caesar woke them up early yesterday, but she's so exhausted from her weekend of playing with Caesar that she slept til 0730 today. Aaron said she had some zoomies and was a little hyper this morning (I was out cold til about 10, the weekend really exhausted me), but now she's passed out on the couch again. I should leave her with Caesar more often! She's worn out, which is allowing us to get stuff done and have peace and quiet.

Riley, as far as Appa goes, it shouldn't be too hard to push his schedule an hour or so. Ghost was used to my early schedule, and then when I had surgery a couple weeks ago Aaron was able to push her an hour so he could get a little more sleep. It took a few days of him letting her whine in her crate for an extra 10-15 minutes, but now she's set with a new wakeup time. Of course, it doesn't matter what time she gets taken out before bed (Aaron frequently stays up til 2 or 3), she's up at 0730 sharp. Good luck with Appa!

You guys always make me wonder if Aevyn is actually a husky, or some other breed in a husky-suit. He doesn't whine in the mornings at all, nor for dinner or breakfast, or anything. He's so mellow. If we sleep in, he sleeps in.

The extra hour went very smoothly over here, if anything our cats were more annoyed by it.

Keep your real Huskies away, can't have Aevyn learning all this stuff. Wink

If Appa is in his crate he won't whine in the mornings, just hangs out until we get him (as late as 9:00am). If he's loose in the house (almost every night these days) he doesn't complain, just comes and sticks his face in ours at about 6:00. And then if that doesn't work he paces, and THEN starts to talk talk talk talk talk until one of us moves.

I do a forced adjustment with my pack, they are generally pretty good with the new hour different schedule by the end of the first week.

I'm pretty lucky when it comes to sleeping in. Frankie learned real quick that all of the whining in the world doesn't get me up in the morning. He is pretty good about waiting for me to wake up. If there are others up and he thinks he is missing something, he will scratch on my door until someone else lets him out. I have to set my alarm for an hour before I need to get up, so waking up is not an easy tasks for me.

We don't really have a set time for feedings to begin with, so the time change hasn't had much of an effect. They eat in the am after a walk whatever time that may be, usually 8 during the week, 9 on the weekends. And in the pm they eat after we eat dinner which is not usually later than 7. If it goes too late they will start to whine and knock their bowls over, but generally are ok.

Now 8 pm snack time is another story. Every night my dad gives the dogs some kind of treat. They start whining, barking and getting in his face around 7 every night regardless of what time they ate dinner. It is really funny,

Same with Kale! He never wakes me up. He'll lay quietly in my room till noon if I'm in bed that long. Not husky-like at all Laughing

I am just amazed at how much your pups eat. It took me almost a year to go through a 30lb bag of food. I'm thinking of trying something different to see if she will eat more. Maybe i give her too many treats and then she doesn't eat her food. She isn't fat at all. She weighs 43-45lbs and everyone thinks she is too thin. The vet said she is perfect, maybe others have fat dogs. I at least buy good treats. The one thing that lets me know she is a husky is she loves to whine, when she is tired, needs to go potty, wants attention, wants a walk, whine whine whine. Laughing
Wouldn't trade her for anything though.

Shocked

Okay, I'd like to know how you make 30 lbs of food last a year! How much do you feed on a daily basis?

Back when we fed a kibble and canned food mixture of 1.5 cups kibble plus 1/3 can of wet food per day a 28 lb bag of Evo would last us 2 months. And that was with just our one sibe.

I don't measure her food. She has food in her bowl at all times. I just don't get it. She could take a month to finish that bowl. She has been the same weight since she was 6months old. She will eat the bowl of food at grandmas (same exact kind) but not at home. She just doesn't have a big appetite. I talked to the vet and she said that huskies can last on a small amount of food, so thought it was normal, until I heard how much yours all eat. She isn't starving thats for sure.

I'd like to know too!! Frankie and Bruiser get about 1 3/4 to 2 cups of kibble a day and we go through the large bag (26lbs i think) of BB Wilderness in about a month. Frankie is finally at a decent weight (58lbs) and Bruiser the pit boxer mix is a lean, solid 54lbs. I wouldn't call either of them fat at this point, but would sure love to know a way to save some $$ and stretch out the food without starving them.

All I know is the last time I bought a bag of food was either last Dec or Jan, because it was during a snow storm. Maybe we aren't as active as the rest of you. I feel like a bad mom now. She has food at all times, but doesn't eat it.

The treats you give may play a major part of how much kibble he's eating. How many treats a day do you give? Correct me if I'm wrong, you have a really calm, mellow dog, right?

Appa is eating 4 cups a day (any less and he drops weight into "too-skinny" land) and you'd think we were starving him with how he attacks his food. And for what it's worth. Appa doesn't get any treats. Well, he does get a few pieces of cheese every now and then.

Have you noticed all your spare change seems to come up missing? She's probably sneaking off to McD's when you think she is playing out in the yard.

Have you tried switching her food? Maybe she doesn't like it? Mya used to just sit and guard her food (without touchingit) until we changed to her BB Wilderness. She wouldn't even chew..lol. Now she's on Wellness Core Reduced Calorie and/or Wellness Core Ocean and she inhales it also. She just didn't like the other kibble. Also, have you tried putting her on a feeding schedule vs giving her access to her food at all times? A feeding schedule might help as well.

Riley, Kody's just like Appa. You would think he's starving the way he eats his food! He's currently on 3 cups a day for the most part. Mya is on 1 1/2 cups to 2 cups. Depending. Then again they also get Honest Kitchen and raw chicken so it's kinda hard to say exactly how many cups of dry food they get daily.

Oh, and you're not a bad mom AT ALL!! I love you

I have tried a few different kinds. she likes the canadea because she will eat it at her grandmas house. she will eat it and acts like she likes it. i just bought a sample of Earthborn. and have tried the blue buffalo and taste of the wild. but nothing that she wants to just eat as a regular so many cups a day. she is very picky on her wet food so she doesnt get than anymore. she would eat until she threw up if it was our food. i guess i could try raw food.

Have you tried cutting back on the treats significantly to see if that increases how much kibble she'll eat in a day? I would imagine that if I gave my sibe a decent sized piece of jerky wrapped in sweet potato 4-5 times a day he wouldn't want to eat as much if he didn't get much daily exercise. Especially considering huskies don't need much food to begin with and can be good about self regulating. If most of her daily food is made up of treats then that's not exactly very healthy for her. If you haven't already, I would try dropping down to 1, maybe 2 max, of the treats per day to help stimulate her appetite for her proper food. There's nothing wrong with her not eating much, but if the little that she is eating isn't nutritionally balanced (like treats) then I'd worry about her lacking proper nutrition...especially over the long run.

How often do you refill her kibble dish? Do you wait for her to empty the dish before refilling it? I ask because the nutrition and quality of the food degrades when left out exposed. It's one of the reasons I am not an advocate of free feeding, the food simply won't be as nutritious if it sits in the bowl for days when compared to kibble that's stored in an air tight container and fed on a schedule. I'm certainly not against free feeding by any means, but I think there are more advantages to scheduled feeding such as food that hasn't gone stale from sitting out for long periods as an example. Even food from a bag that was opened a year ago I cannot imagine would be very nutritious...much less appetizing. Compare it to a bag of chips. If I opened a bag of chips 10 months ago and left it in an air tight sealed container all this time I guarantee it would be stale by now and not taste at all appealing. Now imagine if I opened that same bag of chips once a month even to eat a little bit, you can bet it'd probably taste even worse. Not the best analogy, but you get my drift. If Libby really takes that long to go through her food then I would stick to buying much smaller bags of food such as the 5-15 lb sizes instead of the 25-30 lb bags.

If all else fails and she still doesn't eat much of her kibble, I would try incorporating a complete food as a "treat" to ensure she's getting balanced nutrition. Nothing wrong with the treats that you are giving her already but if she's not eating her kibble then I'd recommend supplementing her treats with something even healthier. You can easily give a complete food as a treat and she won't know the difference. Complete foods that I use as treats are things like Natural Balance meat rolls, Ziwipeak, and Stella & Chewy's freeze dried patties. There are other choices out there to choose from besides those if you (or Bella) prefer something else. At least using something like those as a treat you'll know they're complete and balanced so her overall and long term health are not as great a concern. Just some ideas. Smile
