So Jas hates been bein bathed or brushed. Sometimes she makes it almost impossible. It just depends on whether I have succeded in tuckerin her out or not before hand. Has anyone tried using any kind of tranquilizer on their dogs? My vet said that they can prescribe her one but sometimes they don't work. They basically just calm them down and take the 'edge' off. That was his words. Anyone use any? Do you know if you can get anything over the counter that is safe?

i think you would have better luck making bath and brushing time a good time verses the stress she is getting now. that means give her a good walk before hand and then have her fav. treats on hand for the brushing and bath time, show her the brush and if you can i like to hold on to the collar and rub my hand on the head at the same time while i start to brush the top of the back, go slow and take your time. it will take some time but she will learn that being brushed is not that bad. it took a yr for our boy to not go running away when the brush came out.

now for baths same thing. start with the water on the paws and slowly introduce it to the whole body, make sure the temp is ok and again you have treats on hand. you might need a 2nd person to help you do both but i would rather work on the issue then drug a dog.

Mylo would blow lunch within 5 minutes of having even the smallest amount of beer, must of been that Asian DNA that made him sick so easily. (chocolate also)

I don't know about the prescrition stuff, but I have wasted my money on the herbal over-the-counter stuff. I now us them as treats when I am annoyed with his hyperness... tossing one to him and saying "Relaaaax, relaaaax..." I secretly hope they might work, but they never do!

Sam, they are called "Relax" from GNC. We had taken Sabaka with us to visit family in PA and even though his crate was right beside our bed and he was only in it when we were in our bed, he was SO stressed out. Panting and pacing... The main ingredients are chamomile and tryptophan. We tried giving him the entire recommended dosage about 1-2 hours before bed. Then we tried spacing out the dosage over those same couple hours. It just didn't seem to help. He was acting better our last night there, but I think that was just because he had gotten more comfortable in his surroundings.

Geez them lots of turkey, lots of tryptophan in turkey thats why everyone wants to sleep after gorging on Thanksgiving dinner.

Sam, let me know how the rescue remedy works! I've been thinking about trying it out to see if it will actually work when we go on the Camp Florida Snowdog trip in Feb. It's a 5 hr drive and these 2 go INSANE in the car! We just got back from a 30min drive to South Beach and WOW!

My mom gives a couple of her dogs some stuff. I think it's called "comfort" or somehting. It really drugs them out! lol. They are terrified of thunderstorms and she gives it to them so they don't hurt themselves or destroy the house when it's storming. It seems like it lasts a few hours.
