| AKKs are a relatively new breed... they cross huskies with smaller dogs like a chihuahua to get the size and then breed the crosses to create the AKK line. There's a thread in the Resource Library about them _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| i think it's gonna be really bad for the AKK breed, they're going to become overbred, and they're still known for a lot of health problems. |

| - Wikipedia: Alaskan Klee Kai wrote:
- The breed was developed in Wasilla, Alaska, during the mid-1970s by Linda S. Spurlin after she observed the result of an accidental mating of an Alaskan Husky and an unknown small dog. The breed was developed with Siberian and Alaskan Huskies using Schipperke and American Eskimo Dog to bring down the size without dwarfism. She bred these dogs in private until she released them to the general public in 1988. Originally called the "Klee Kai", the breed split into "Alaskan Klee Kai" and "Klee Kai" for political reasons in 1995. The breed consolidated under the new name in 2002. The Alaskan Klee Kai was officially recognized by the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) in 1995 and by the United Kennel Club (UKC) on January 1, 1997.

| Another instance where I need a face palm. I don't think AKK's will get quickly overpopulated though, considering you can't purchase them really for under 2K which most don't have.. however the AKK clan is going to go bonkers over this. |

| Pfftt, Miley...that's SO last year! We've been toting our siberian around LA for a while! I've seen AKKs here in town and never seen a cute one. That one's pretty cute. I looked into them when we still live in an apt without a yard. They have the same exercise requirements as Huskies, yet are higher strung. She apparently already has a Malti-poo and Shepherd : http://www.peoplepets.com/people/pets/article/0,,20493772,00.html At least she walks her dogs! |

| AKK's don't have any Chihuahua in them Tori! Lol They have smaller Nordic breeds bred with the husky such as the Schipperke and American Eskimo dogs.
They do have a number of health issues to be wary of but good breeding should help lower the incidence. I have seen plenty of adorable AKK's and I've also seen a fair number that just look awful. I think the Standard size, the largest of the 3 sizes, looks the best personally. The toy size, the smallest of the 3 sizes, I think look the worst. What I don't like about the breed standard is the strong emphasis on physical markings.
Their temperament is generalized as high strung which I hate. They aren't all like that, good breeding and proper socialization can give you a well rounded AKK.
Hubby and I have met an AKK and we fell in love with it. We've already decided and agreed that our next dogs will be a pair of AKK's.
Kristina, standard size AKK's look a lot like small huskies. It's the toy and miniature sizes that look a little funny. The toy size I'll agree does look retarded...like a husky Chihuahua cross really. _________________ |

| i absolutely love her GSD, he's freaking gorgeous
i've been looking into getting an AKK for a while, but i want a breeder that doesn't breed them with the weird face some of them have, but they're so darn expensive! |
