| i don't think you should stop raw, like everyone said we can all choke on the simplest things! JD was in the wrong for cutting up the bone and that is why storm had an issue. (JD feels bad and im sure it was scary as hell for him to have that happen but lesson learned, i hope) it just comes down to knowing how to feed raw. _________________ |

| I always think it's funny how they lecture on raw diets when with kibble there is so many recalls, you have no idea if glass or something fell in the batch, all of that. |

| I don't want to stop feeding raw, and for now, it'll be dehydrated and freeze dried and maybe the 'pre-mixes' that are frozen...but I am hoping I can at least convince JD to feed raw muscle meat. And hopefully, slowly start to introduce some bone back when this all blows over.
I know Dr. M is just concerned about the possibility of bacteria and chocking and all that stuff and want to make sure I am fully aware of all of that. Dr. M and her staff are aware that I have been feeding raw in those various forms, but she/they may think I am not as informed as I am about feeding raw.
It's just unfortunate that JD's mistake is also being carried over to me.

| I'm starting weight lifting, LOL! But truly, when you do talk to Dr. Miller and if she tries to lecture you, I would flat out tell her, no disrespect, but that you have thoroughly researched raw and know handfulls of other dog owners who feed it and you are not making an uninformed decision by feeding it- and that you respect her outlook on it, but would prefer if she could respect yours and not try to scold you for it. As I said, google kibble recalls and hell, you will find hundreds of posts about recalls for a variety of different reasons. I HATE not knowing what is in that bag, there is no guarantee something didn't dive into it that could be hazardous- not to mention you have no idea where the contents come from (which is why I like THK, they even tell you where all their ingredients come from!).. I wish Becca was on this forum, she'd have so many articles to share on that topic. Google "my dog died from a raw diet" and nothing matches much and anything I have seen has been bone-related, not from salmonella. I have had vets start lecturing me and I cut them off right away and tell them I have no intention to be rude, but that unless they have a masters in dog nutrition and follow a holistic outlook, then I do not want their input and hope they can refrain from expressing their OPINIONS on the matter. It sounds rude but I think it's very rude of a vet to try to tell me I am deliberately trying to harm my dog.

| Wow, I'm just catching up on this. Poor JD (even though it was his fault..lol)! He must have been so scared! I think I would have freaked if I saw one of my 2 choking! I agree with everybody else though. Given, that I don't know much about raw and just started giving my 2 chicken drumsticks and quarters a few months ago....I would be iffy about the wings. Kody chows done the drumstick in less than 2min. Imagine a cut up wing I had one minor scare. Well 2 actually. One was when Kody threw up a piece of bone and it seemed to get stuck in his throat on the way up. The other was when I gave them pork ribs and a small piece of it got lodged in Kody's back teeth (almost his throat). I had to pull that thing out with him chewing down on my hand (ouch!) I'm SO SO GLAD THAT STORM IS OK!!! I'm sure that you'll be very happy to get home and see the big boy |

| I'm back to square 2 with hubby...
Heather has some good points in this thread...and as Kristina says, 'If raw was so bad, she would FIVE dead dogs by now'...and I would have 2 dead dogs...and if it weren't for hubby's mistake cutting up the wing into small pieces to choke on, this thread wouldn't even be here.
Maybe start with just raw pieces of chicken that you would eat...and see how their bellies do? No bone, just the meat...and let hubby see how they do....start small....

| I think what made everyone hush up and let me feed my dogs what I want is when I showed them a statement from the AAFCO that stated "meat meal" most certainly could contain euthanized pets (or something along those lines.) They left me alone to feed how I want after that LOL After a while everyone began to really get excited especially since their teeth became white and clean after just a month. Their stools were smaller and will disintegrate into nothing if you feed a prey model diet. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | It's meat and bone meal, Kristina, I believe only a few really crappy kibbles have it.. I know Pedigree does and I nearly vomit every time I see it purchased. Aside from vets, no one has told me not to do it until Jarod recently, and I think it's because Rogue is a baby.
Ambrose, to be honest I don't think you can make someone interested in something they're not. Dog food isn't exciting to most. Only thing I can suggest is going on dogfoodanalysis.com and printing the reviews of the bad dog food for them to see why it's bad, and also print out a "how to real ingredients labels." BTW.. I thought we had a size limit on avatars? That photo is huge and stretching the webpage, maybe put it as your signature? |

| I already did I'm not sure how to create a limit on avatars. I have the forum set to automatically resize signatures _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| So now it will adjust my pics....you see I'd love to put a pic of Killie but my option to upload my own picture is closed off in my avatar selection abilities |

| You have to resize it to something no more than 200 pixels wide. You can do it in paint very easily _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Hubby said he leave the raw feeding to me = YAY! So tonight, G&S got raw chicken for dinner and they were SO excited! I'm so happy that hubby even wanted to watch so that he get over his trauma! Storm chomped down like nothing ever happened last week... ...but Ginger chomped the bone but wasn't sure how to eat the meat...so I had to rip it up for her and hand feed her. She'll get back into it now that mommy's home _________________ |

| That's great! My boyfriend wasn't big on the raw thing at first either. He would leave the room and had me come get him when they were finished. Now he will hang out and watch. Im sure hubby will be back on board in no time. |

| Yay, that's awesome Claudia! I hadn't fed them any raw chicken for about a week or so until today. I had run out and honestly hadn't gone to buy more out of pure laziness..lol. Honestly, Storm crossed my mind while they were chowing down on their drumsticks. I was a little nervous, but as usual all went well. |
