| As some of you know, I recently adopted Killian a 6 yo sibe. Part of the reason, I wanted a sibe was a jogging buddy ( I am not considering abandoning her!) but she is a couch potato! She just lays there all day. I made her go for a walk and she seemed ok on it. Is it normal for them to be so mellow? She is sooo tired. She just saw the vet and her bloodwork looked good. She is being switched cold turkey to raw diet. Our house is very cool. My nickname is penguiness among my friends because my house is always very cool. Any thoughts? |

| you just got her! she might not be up to your level of a work out and you need to adjust her into that.
CLAUDIA could chime in with all she has done with her new rescue Storm....
anyways your gonna have to give her time, start with a lot of short works if you can over the coarse of the day, then make them longer and maybe cut out one then start a light jog in with the walk part of it, diet will be good as well to get her on a good food that will promote muscle. even cause your house is cool it might still be to hot out side for her to feel up to do much. most of our huskies just lay around the house all day. thats normal. but you take out the leash and you wake up the beast! _________________ |

| She's still adjusting to her new home I'm sure. I wouldn't expect her to show her "true colors" until at least 3 months after settling in. She may turn out to be a real couch potato but I wouldn't go by how she is behaving now, it's too early to tell for sure. She could just be very stressed and still getting a grip on her new surroundings and she hasn't had a chance to get into a routine yet. Having a routine will help tremendously with getting her into things.
FWIW, when my sibe is boarded or spends a day at the vet or in a busy household on a visit or something he is really tired for a day or two afterward generally. New, stressful, and draining things take a lot out of him so he needs his recovery time.
Another thing is do you know how much exercise she is accustomed to? If she isn't conditioned to regular structured walks/runs then you'll have to take your time and build her up. We had to do that with our sibe when we adopted him, slowly taking longer and longer walks building him up over a period of weeks. _________________ |

| As I understand it her foster home didn't walk her but she has excellent walking manners so I assume she was walked at sometime in her life. |

| Jenn and Val has some good valid points: What level of exercise is she accustomed to? It may be cool in the house but if it's hot out, she could seem lethargic as she may be like my Storm who easily overheats as opposed to my Ginger who still prances and trots in 90+ degree weather.
Both Ginger and Storm took AT LEAST 3 months to really settle in and show their true personality. And they are perfectly content to lay around the house all day if that's what we do. We've only had Storm 3 months, so he's just starting to really show up...Ginger perks up once we get her out. As soon as we get home, they're back to lounging.

| Koda is 3 years, 4 months and while when he was 1.5 - 2.5 years old he loved to go running for several miles a day(we use to run 4-6 miles a day, he went to work with me and played for 7 hours, and we hiked all winter), since he's been 3 he truly is not a runner. I ran everyday before breaking my ankle and I was literally dragging him along after the first 5 minutes... it isn't really fun at all running with him but I like combining our exercise. He is even lazy in a sense at a dog park if the dogs start sprinting, he will start the run and just decide it's too much effort and trot somewhere else (though he does play chase if it's a dog he really likes).
I mean, not all huskies are crazy active. Koda really mellow and he is only 3. Yes he will play with other dogs all energetic and he will run a bit but not much at all. I could skip 3 days of walking him with living in an apartment and when we had our yard, I literally could go a week or two without doing it (I know this only from when we went on vacation and I told my parents not to walk him as I was too paranoid).
Oh and Koda lounges around ALL day. Literally, all he does is sleep aside from a few times he'll come talk or bug Rogue for 5-10 mins.

How true that is...we had to drag Dakota in last night since she was obsessing about something in the neighbor's yard...took the leash out to take her back out so she could do her nightly business and they both went crazy! Dancing around, talking, etc...then of course I went out with just Dakota on the leash and Demon starting crying. |

| He may need to ramp up on his exercise program, like everyone said. Chili must not have been walked and was suuuppper slow and tired the first few weeks. He's still slower than Frosti - but he did get up to running (with breaks) after a few weeks. He was also better after a dropped some poundage (gained muscle!). |

| Crazy thing is that they're the same age, same litter. He outweighs her by 20 lbs! They have a serious issue with being separated... |

| Siku would run all day long if you let her, but Elara would rather sit in the house chillin'. I've never seen such a calm/lazy husky puppy before! _________________ -Sara |

| Today Killian and I did two short bike rides and some intense grooming. She is beat, but she sure is perty I got a little worried when a crazy chipmunk ran right across the sidewalk in front of us, but luckily she didn't seem to care too much phew! |
