| 79.2 lbs today and Storm is officially 'within ideal weight' range - he's at the top end, but at least he is now 'within' weight range!! We also did a blood test and we find out tomorrow if Storm can also be OFF thyroid meds! _________________ |

| YEAH!!!! oh i hope his blood work comes back GOOD! i know the feeling of being in 'within' weight range.... im healthy but could still go like 10lbs according to the "chart" on my BMI.
Storm really looks like a diff. husky! he needs to be a weigh-loss rep. for dogs!!! _________________ |

| I just heard back from Dr Miller and Storm's thyroid level is officially 'within normal range', albeit at the high end....but still, in normal range! Woo Hoo! We will be tapering him OFF thyroid meds but we will still need to monitor his weight to make sure that he continues to lose a little more weight in the process, and is able to maintain his weight once we drop just a couple more pounds. Yay! My Storm is back to NORMAL!! _________________ |

| Thanks Sam! I'd really like to see him slender down just a tad bit more in his hips, but that'll come as we snowshoe more this winter.

| I hope so, Kristina!! You'll have to remind me when you'll be coming in, and where in Vail you'll be! Or maybe from the airport on your way to Vail, we can meet up? Otherwise, we'll try to get a day snowshoeing and meet up.

| Even after cutting Storm's thyroid meds in half, he still is losing weight. He weighed in today at 78.1 lbs. He is energetic, healthy and happy! Dr. Miller saw Storm today for the first time in a few months and was simply amazed at how he has transformed into a different husky from the first time she met him in April. Dr. Miller also wants to put his success story up on her website in January when everyone has a new year's weight loss resolution! _________________ |

| Way to go, Storm!!! That's great to hear he's doing so well as you cut back the thyroid meds _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Yay Storm! I wish I could get Blaze to shed some pounds. He's still weighing in at 87lbs. He only gets 2.5 cups of Wellness Core Ocean and 1 or 2 low cal treats a day. I know I need to get him additional exercise but I think after the first of the year I'll get his thyroid checked. |

| We will be at the park on Sunday! He may be a little busy helping me evaluate a family that is wanting to adopt a husky, but we'll be there! _________________ |

Have you tried Wellness Core Reduced Fat/Low Cal Grain Free kibble? I had Storm on it initially, and then slowly started to mix in regular kibble as he lost weight. I still have about 20% of his kibble the Wellness Core, but he's mostly regular food now. Although his thyroid level is 'normal' it's on the high side of the normal range. So we're still monitoring his weight to make sure we're able to maintain with regular exercise. Storm only gets 1.5 cups of food a day, and that's with 20% of it being the reduced fat WC kibble. I will sometimes mix in about 1/4 green beans or green peas as a filler. When you check Blaze's thyroid, and his test results come back borderline, ask about a very low dose of thyroid meds. That's what we did with Storm. He was borderline, but we put him on a very low dose to help him along, monitoring his weight and thyroid level all along the way. It's how I got 34 lbs off Storm in 8.5 months. _________________ |

Same for Mya and it worked!! The Wellness Reduced Cal kibble is awesome!! Mya has lost 18lbs and is now mostly on regular kibble (Wellness Ocean) as well. She also get's 1.5 cups a day and some green beans here and there. Her treats are baby carrots, but I split them in half so she gets maybe 3-4 total a day. |

| Thanks Claudia / Melissa for the advice! I will try the mix of the 2 Wellness formulas. I also use green beans and carrots as a filler when Blaze tosses his empty bowl around wanting more.
I feed my other husky Mikko WC Reduced Fat because he's 10 and started to develop corneal lipidosis and slightly decreased kidney function so I have to feed him 10% fat or less. Just this week started to move Mikko over to Premium Edge Weight Control II which is lower in protein and fat than WCRF. It's a challenge to find a good quality (grain free decent protein) reduced fat kibble. |
