| Do any of you know if there is a website that tells you if a shelter is a kill or no-kill shelter? A county shelter close to me has a full blood siberian husky pup and I know it used to be a kill-shelter but not sure if it still is. I'm sure since it is a pup, it will get adopted but I want to keep an eye out and notify a rescue if his time is coming up. I hate to see a 5 month old get put down, seems like such a waste. I know I can call them on Monday, but really I just think it would be awkward to call and ask if they are a kill shelter but I will do it if I can't find out otherwise. |

| Crap, I found their policies secition and it looks like they are a kill shelter. Here is what their policy states: Some of the factors that might result in an animal being euthanized include aggression towards humans and other animals such that they may pose a threat to the community; medical conditions that will likely result in poor quality of life for the animal; population density or space available at the shelter; or contagious diseases that would place the rest of the shelter population at risk. Such decisions are made on an individual basis for each animal.
Here is a link to the pup. He's cute. Anyone want a another puppy??? http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=CHMP.A067673 |

| Feel free! I couldn't imagine that baby not getting a home though. He has such a sweet face. |

| I would be surprised if he didn't get snatched up as well. I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing. I did contact a rescue just to see if they would step in if needed. |

| Ah yes, the Champaign County Humane Society...
I'm originally from Urbana, and my brother still lives there. I know he has several friends who already have Huskies (he's been passing advice and info since we got Ghost), so I will share this with him to see if any of them want another or know anyone else who might. Thanks for sharing this, and hopefully he doesn't stay there long! _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Wow, what a small world! Let me know if your brother finds someone to go get this guy. Then I can stop worrying about him. |

| Small world indeed...
I emailed my brother and I'm sure he will ask around. If I were still in IL I would totally go rescue him. Ghost needs a playmate since our Cocker refuses to play and just gets snippy with her. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I contacted Northern Lights Rescue yesterday and got a response today. They asked if I would be willing to pull and transport if they take this puppy on. I told her ofcourse! I'm waiting to hear back to see what all I would need to do. I wish I could foster, but that would not be fair to Dakota so if I can transport for them, then atleast that is helping some... |

| Northern Lights is an amazing rescue. I have worked with them often in pulling huskies and malamutes out of our local shelter. |

I almost adopted a dog from them a year ago. There was a 10 year old female that I thought would have been perfect for Dakota's playmate, but I think she was an outside dog her whole life and they did not think that she could physically "hold it" while I was at work. Plus they said they kept her from the other huskies becuase she was not as energetic. Back then Dakota was a rough player so I knew it would not be a good fit. In fact, that was the reason I joined this forum. I wanted to get input about getting a second husky. As you can guess, everyone told me to go for it. |

| Just and update on this...I called the shelter and they said they already had tons of application for this husky so he would be adopted out soon. She also told me they only euthanize unadoptable animals. I didn't bother to mention that their policy says otherwise. |

| Awwww what a cutie pie. I'm glad a lot of people are interested in him. Hopefully they screen their applicants well and will place him in an appropriate forever home! |
