| I think Miko has an eye infection. I noticed yesterday that she started to have a mucus like discharge from her left eye (different from her normal eye goobers). Today the white of the eye is extremely red. We are heading to the Vet first thing tomorrow morning. Anyone else encounter anything like this? I noticed a lot of threads that talk about eye issues but none of them about this particular issue.

| If it's green or yellow or smells really bad, it's probably infected. And that goes for any type of discharge coming out of anywhere. My Mikko (love the name btw) usually has red eyes in the white part, it comes and goes and the vet just told us it fluctuates with blood pressure especially when they are growing. But I do know it can be a sign of eye disease in combination with other things... |

| Yeah, the mucus is green...I honestly never sniffed it. Her sclera has always been slightly pink, but its REALLY red right now and she is winking a lot. Its almost like conjunctivitis. Can dogs get that? |

| Yeah green isn't good. I think they can get it...it is basically a bacterial or viral infection of the sclera. Hopefully an easy fix with eye drops... |

| Will find out tomorrow. I am very curious as to how she got it. It showed up yesterday morning and at that point she hadn't been contact with any other dogs for a few days.

| If conjunctivitis in dogs are anything similar to what humans can get, there are 'allergy' conjuncivitis...for humans, it's not contagious but it does show the same signs of the contagious version.
Keep up posted! I hope it clears up soon and that it's nothing contagious.

| Dogs can get conjunctivitis. Luka had it once. It cleared up quickly with some eye meds from the vet. Symptoms similar to conjunctivitis can occur with a small eye injury, like a scratch. Your vet can put a special stain on the eye to look for any scratches. Hope all goes well! |

| sorry claudia completely missed your post. But yes, it is allergy related. Doc stained her eye, no injury, gave her a dose of meds and it already looks better. |

| What meds did the vet give her?
Our chihuahua, Glory, had conjunctivitis when we adopted her. Took her to the vet and the vet sent us home with Neo-Poly-Dex eyedrops to apply twice a day and she cleared up very quickly. _________________ |

Val she gave us cortomycin. Its more of a cream than drops, but applied right to the lens of the eye, 2x daily for the next 4 days. I've named it liquid gold as it was $25 dollars for a 1 ounce tube. |

That's what our vet used on Glory at the office but sent us home with Neo-Poly-Dex. Cortomycin is somewhat similar to Neo-Poly-Dex, Cortomycin just has Hydrocortisone instead of Dexamethasone, but both products contain Neomycin and Polymyxin. Worked quickly for our dog too. _________________ |

| If you take Mikko to the dark park often, she could have easily picked it up there. Nothing to worry about and nothing you can really do about it... just like kids.. when they are around each other, they make each other sick That's why it's always a good idea to keep them up-to-date on the Kennel Cough/Bortadella vaccines if they'll be going to daycare or a dog park regularly. Koda used to come back from daycare with increased eye goobers a lot, but his luckily never escalated as far as an infection. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Yep, the first eye(left) cleared up but I am treating both of them while I try to get the right to clear. I'm trying to end this vicious cycle! |

| I think Ginger has an eye infection now too End of last week, I noticed she had more than usualy eye discharge, so I watched it over the weekend to see if the discharge changed in color or developed an odor. Today, I noticed it taking on a tinge of green in color, and through I saw the whites of her eye a little red. She's not pawing at her face or anything, but we have an appointment to see Dr. M tomorrow afternoon. _________________ |

| Mya had an eye infection a few months back and that's how it started also. They gave her some antibiotic ointment and it started clearing up within a few days.
Poor Ginger and her pretty eye =( |

| Miko's actually turned out to be allergy related and we have been fighting it on and off since it orginally happened. Hope ginger is better soon.

| It turns out to be 'conjunctivitis' so we have eye drops. We were going to get an ointment, but since I can give her eye drops 3x/day and is easier to administer, we're going with eye drops. Should clear up in a few days...otherwise, we'll be back to see Dr. M!
