| Subject: Heartgard Dosage? Sun Aug 21, 2011 3:40 pm | |
| I know that there's one (or more) topics already floating around regarding heart worm prevention, but I've been looking and don't seem to run across any. I'm horrible at searching for stuff Anyways, I have a question. I ran out of the 26-50lb dosage for Kody. At his last vet visit in June he weighed 47lbs. I'm pretty sure that he's gained a pound or 2 since, but I haven't gotten him weighed since. I have the 51-100lb dosage that I give Mya and today is the day that they're supposed to take their pill. My question is...should I give him the 51-100lbs dosage? It's a 4lb difference if he hasn't gained anything. Or should I order the lower dosage and wait another week or so before giving it to him? If I do that, I'll probably only be able to give it to him for another month or two because he'll be at 51lbs any day now (if he isn't already). Do you think it will hurt him to give him the higher dosage if he's a few lbs under? I can go get him weighed sometime next week at Petsmart, but that scale is a little iffy to me. Going to vet the just to get him weighed unfortunately really isn't an option. What would you guys do? thanks! |

| I'd cut it in half. That will give him the 26-50lb dosage. I buy the 51-100lb ones and cut them in half for my skinner dogs (Cheyenne and Seamus.) _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | I give Iverhart Plus and the dosage for 26 to 50lbs is 136 mcg ivermectin and 114 mg pyrantel as pamoate salt. Don't know if they have the same thing in them, but if the 51 to 100 dosage is twice that I would think you could just cut it in half. _________________ -Sara |

| I obviously have "duhhh" moments every now and then. The thought about cutting the pill in half never even crossed my mind! A face palm smiley would be perfect right now..LOL!!! That's what I'll do. Thank you ladies |
