Does anyone's husky/huskies have ritual eating habits. Yuki has taken to expecting treats as starters. Typical scenario would be: indicates she wants beef and cheese treats with her kibble, eats the treats, but not the kibble, eats a bowl of tinned food (she indicated early in life that she preferred to eat dry and wet food separately) which has probably been sitting uneaten for some time, goes back to the kibble and finishes that off.

I know dogs (or their owners) who have a routine. But the routine is that they get fed at a certain time (or times) a day. Mine, generally, get fed in the morning and they'll leave themselves a snack for later in the day ( and I leave it since they don't eat each others food (even if it is the same food) )

Al ill really make you laugh. Spider wont eat the same thing every day so we have raw duck raw chicken, raw turkey and beef in the freezer. Today she had turkey for breakfast and duck for lunch.

@gillian my terrier wont eat dry food without having canned food. He eats the canned food first always then gets water and goes back for the dry food.

Mine get fed at a certain time because one is a diabetic and we have to do insulin shots twice a day every 12 hours. Long ago my oldest thought she needed special things to eat her food but I negated that issue by waiting her out. No one gets anything else unless they eat their meal food first. Now, I raw fed for years so that wasn't usually an issue but I have fed kibble before as well. Picky eaters will starve in my house. My in-laws are literally killing one of their dogs with kindness by giving it tons of toppers and treats and catering to its pickiness. The dog should be about 20 pounds and is instead about 45 pounds and is miserably fat. Watching them go through this cycle with multiple dogs over the years has really made it a mission of mine to give my dogs great nutrition but opt to spoil them with experiences, not food.

The use of a wet fully balanced food as a topper is fine but if using single source meal toppers it's important to manage amounts closely. If something that isn't individually nutritionally balanced is used as a topper its important to not let it be more than 10% of the total meal amount or you risk throwing your animal's nutrition and vitamin balance off which can lead to a plethora of long-term health problems.
