Raw Feeding help? Empty
PostSubject: Raw Feeding help?   Raw Feeding help? EmptySun Mar 09, 2014 3:35 am

We are newbies to the raw feeding, Titan is fully on raw food, I know sardines are supposed to be really good for them but we think he may have a bit of a zinc deficiency. Are there any other little fish that would be good for us to incorporate?

Currently he is getting about 14.5g of food twice daily, keep a rotation going of chicken, chicken feed, heart, gizzard (chicken or duck), plus duck necks and sardines.

Any suggestions on expanding this very much appreciated!

How about sea kelp to help the zinc deficiency?
I would not recommend and neck as there is too much lymph nodes around, not ideal to feed regularly.
It seems liver has been missing from your feeding list.

What is giving you the idea he has a zinc deficiency specifically?

How long has he been on raw?

Have you tried to incorporate anything other than poultry?

I want to start my Husky on raw diet. I will start on frozen leg quarters. Do not know what would be a serving size? Should I give anything else with it. I will freeze the chicken first.

i give my pups leg quarters but I have one questions. Do I need to take off the skin and trim the fat or can I just thaw it and give it to him.

Paul, it depends on if skin and fat give him loose stools. With my 6 month old I do have to trim the excess fat and remove skin, with my older girl I do not. You can also feed frozen, it will take him longer to eat, and he will more than likely chew his food more.

Removing skin and fat is totally dependent on how he is handling it. If he has loose stools for longer than should be, then removing the skin will help. I started off with no skin but then started incorporating it into meals. I don't feed a lot of skin because it is so fatty but in the beginning it can help the transition removing it.
