| Hi folks - brand new here and thankful I found this forum! I have a 7 month old male Siberian Husky - love him to bits but he needs a companion who can give him the 3000% amount of attention that he requires. We’re thinking another dog and narrowing in on the mini Golden Retriever. Size would be right but am wondering if anyone has ever had this particular combo before? Do they play well together? Let me know of any concerns or issues you’re aware of - thank you so much! |

| Like labs, the Goldies I've seen aren't big on rough play and that's how the Husky will play - ROUGH! If you don't know what you're looking at, you'd say they're fighting. But then you'll realize that with all the growling and "biting" there's no blood. It's play, Husky style!
I have no idea how a Goldie will react to that - my one time lab just backed off but that doesn't always work.
If you've never seen two Huskies play, you might want to locate someone else who has one and let them "play" ... then see how the Goldie stands up to it ... I'm thinking, from what I've seen of Goldies, probably not too well. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Husky and german shepherd is generally a good combo. Although you mention a smaller dog but most dogs that can't handle a husky aren't big. I mean like My GSD I got a husky in the first place because he is SUPER rough, intimidates my sister's pitt bull lab mix. And I knew a little dog even if it was tolerant of rough play wasn't a good idea. So that's why I picked a husky. What's good is you have one dog that isn't protective but the other is. So while You can have a GSD as a natural guard dog, You can have the more friendly husky isn't as intimidating to people. I already had a natural protection dog, so I felt I didn't need another, hence another reason why I got a husky. I myself wanted a golden as a companion for him, but thought it was too big. If you don't want to go for a GSD I suggest schnauzer maybe? My neighbors schnauzer is pretty good with my husky. All schnauzer sizes are smaller then a husky so If you do go for that I suggest the largest size, the standard or mid size version. |

| @copperhusky the giant schnauzer is bigger then a gsd but lives longer and has less health problems. Also used for the same personal protection/police and military work as a gsd. |

The giant isn't the same as the standard I don't think. |

| Nope the standard is a med sized dog and the mini... just of the 3 sizes 2 are smaller then a husky and one is bigger. |
