| Hi there,
I am overwhelming the grief that happened.
It would be helpful if anyone to help me to understand cause of situation.
I have him since was 8wks and have no much choice to euthanasia at 13yr 11m at emergency hospital.
Everything happens too quick to respond and the worst case it happened just few hours after my long haul flight. He was not in a situation to wait for my next long-haul flight.
Symptoms: at home - screaming, it is the most horrific scream from him. - lost control bladder / bowel - foam at mouth - paralysis
way to emergency unit (with above) - mouth can't be close - drooling
at emergency unit - heart rate is OK
(8 hrs later) - called the vet clinic that we usually visit, refuse to accept the a case as being told there is little can be considered
(at emergency hospital) - no response to sounds / touch / light - only breathing and heartbeat were the only vital - Vet said the tests can't tell much, with guessing brain bleeding
(euthanasia takes place)
Q: It would be grateful to understand the most likely reason of death.
Q: If it was a brain bleeding, could surgery help?
As his last vet visit was a month ago, he was bright and good appetite. Apart from kidney disease and joint pains (on monthly injection ), he is generally well.
It is sorrow to face this situation. |

| I see a few possibilities, given what you described as " the most horrific scream from him." The first, a sub arachnoid bleed, possibly an aneurysm. In humans this is described as thunderclap headache or the worst headache ever. The second, a brain tumor you were not aware of caused a sudden bleed. This i know caused the death of a fb friends husky - she did know the dog had a brain tumor secondary to lymphoma that was being treated. And the dog died with the same horrific scream you reported. Finally a large hemorrhagic stroke in an area of the brain where the pressure would be exceedingly painful - which is sort of like the sub arachnoid hemorrhage.
I am so sorry for your loss and the horrific way in which he died. With no response to light, sounds or touch surgery likely would not have helped - probably too much brain function lost. I am so very sorry - i hope this information helps with the "what ifs" and second guessing we all have after losing a loved animal. |

| @amymeme Thank you for informative sharing I wish I knowledge enough to make the decision sharply. Either to transfer him to a more equipped hospital or cut the pain quicker. It is cruel to "watch" the inhumane journey |

| @Grizzly&Charcoal I'm sorry for the pain to you and your pup and really glad that it wasn't me in that situation, it seems the definition of agony! @amymeme is often the best helper when it comes to the medical "why?" I think we all want to know "What happened?" when someone, pet or human, passes unexpectedly and in too many cases there's never any solid resolution ... we end up with a plethora of "maybe this...?" and a lot of agony in remembering the bad event that ended their life when we should be striving to honour them by remembering the years worth of good times. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
