Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! | my husky duke has been experiencing these symptoms for a week and im freaking out. first started with manic/hyper episode, he looked disturbed and couldnt settle. it was out of the blue. then lethargic, unwilling to get up, glassy distant look in his eyes, runny nose, no appetite for food and water. he got better fast over the next day and 24 hrs later was 100%. then a day after that the same thing again but worse. hes so out of character and looks miserable. bloodwork is normal, has been on iv fluids earlier this week but no improvement for very long after second episode. im going to another vet for second opinion (for lack of a better word-first vet just said doesnt know whats wrong) but ive researched for days and cant figure this out. has anyone experienced this and might know whats going on with him? in the evenings he looks confused and i wonder if he recognizes me or hallucinating. hes only 7 yo. his co-ordination seems okay and no seizures.

| Transient seizures maybe or a stroke. Doggy alzheimers/dementia/sundowning, Allergy? My terrier has transient seizures and when they happen it just looks like hes dreaming. But when he gets up his balance is a little off, he looks confused gets clingy and has a very exaggerated startle response. He also wont eat or drink. And then a few hours later its like it never happened.
So some of what you described sounds like a genetic issue that is common in springer spaniels. Usually it hits between 6 and 8 yrs old. Since your not dealing with a spaniel and i dont know if huskies are prone to the same neurological problems its unlikely.
I think the second opinion is something you need to do asap. |

| Not sure where you are at but sounds like allergies to me. I've got one dog that just goes down hard this time of year when the trees start popping. Runny nose, watery eyes. The drainage makes his stomach feel bad. Pretty much the same as I feel when my allergies wake up for spring. You might try a little zyrtec or claritin and see if it makes a difference. 0.5 mg per pound of dog. Just plain zyrtec. No D or extras like long last this or fast acting thats. _________________ |
