| hi, just wanted to share some of are garden pictures. We started renovation a few weeks before summer weather kicked in and took a retaining wall away from the fence and combined them to make a walk in garden for my mom. last years small garden on both sized of the fence. my brother added in bamboo boxes last year. sadly the willow died form gofer causes. this year we started excavating the area for the garden and moving some sprinkles. we built the wall took some time to build, with the kids helping. added some 1/2 wire to keep the gofer out. Leo watching and helping dig and move the dirt into the new area. the we add some fencing to keep the plants safe form Leo's digging an number 1s and 2s. we planted some green onions, cucumbers, lavender, basal, and tomatoes. and Leo found is favorite spot in the garden wail we all planted. this is a cactus fruit and a cactus plank are one peace. looks very strange. i'll take a picture of the garden and what it looks like now in a cuple of days. |

| I love cactus. I have one outdoor one but it hasn't bloomed in a while. I may have to move it and see if I can get it to rebloom like yours is. _________________ |

| our house is at a strange angle we get sun all day in the back yard until the sun goes down and the house cast the shadow . here is what the garden look like now; a mini jungle the front entrance the squash bush got really huge. we also move the raspberry plant into the garden. the heirloom tomatoes got way bigger then we thought we'll have to get bigger metal stacks for them next year. and they finally have some flowers and small tomatoes , yum. almost time for some salsa and bbq-ing. i think this is habanero chilli but not sure. the other size of the garden, my mom planted a hug pumpkin plant. the green onion are growing nicely. we also got some small cucumbers. one of bananas that we have to plant on the back fence area and fence in cause Leo like to eat them . i think this is a strawberry or pineapple guava finally flowering this year.

| Ugh. Color me jealous I have tomato plants with lots of foliage and golf ball sized tomatoes. But, its so cool the last few days, I'm not sure they's ripen...and if they do, with all the rain, they may be tasteless Have picked a few Serrano peppers, though. Your garden looks great and I love the picture of Leo smelling the flower. Should have named him Ferdinand, |

| I believe your unidentified plant may be a variety of Amaranth. If you google Amaranth and then go to images you'll see several varieties and some look just like your photo. What a beautiful garden you have! |

Your question prompted me to google it; the grain head looks similar to maize which also made me wonder. According to WikiPedia, the answer is yes. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Since gardening is scattered all over, I'll comment here ... Cucmbers, still have a few new ones forming on the vine - but Sasha has decided that she *really* likes cucumbers so I've had to shorten her lead so she can't reach the garden space. What are forming up now look better than what I had growing earlier, but found that overwatering cuke's leads to yellow cukes so I've cut back some and they're looking better. Cantaloupe - got one and that'll be one that goes in next year; I just planted two plants (small garden) and I'm getting two cantaloupes but the one I got out earlier was really good!! Have more green and yellow peppers forming up - the pests (bugs and birds) seem to leave the yellow ones alone and I'm hoping I can get a couple of the green ones now. I beat the pests to one out of about 4 earlier. Ditto the tomatoes - I've gotten two, have one on my window sill, they have good flavour but the birds<?> also agree they taste good and they get to them before I do. Saw how another of the locals had his staked to t-posts and he's got a good selection of fruit so I think I'll try that next year. @RedFlashFire05, not meaning to hijack your thread, I tend to just toss my comments about my small garden out at random .... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Leo loves cucumber from the garden, its one of his favorites, until the watermelon starts fruiting. its got a few flowers but for got to get pictures. our cantaloupe dried up due to some slight over planting . , hate though buggers. i usually use a gallon of soapy water to 4 tsp of baking soda and spray every 3 to 4 days. work very well. we have some black bell peppers still growing but its so tiny. the chilies are producing an abundance of chilies. so far the tomatoes are still growing, i let Leo in this morning he headed to the tomatoes to see if any were ready. we also cut the Amaranth and collected the seeds this one was the tallest my mom posed for the picture. it looks about 7 ft tall. so far the sweet potatoes are surviving the scorching heat over the last 3 days. they will be ready in like 3 months to harvest. the big pumpkin my mom planted has one almost ready to eat. the cactus fruit was finally ready to eat. it was very good, and we all shard it. the other cactus had 2 more, but every one couldn't wait to taste this one. |
