Hi everyone, my husky Bodhi is about a year and 2 months now. He recently lost all his puppy fur over their summer. He used to be much fluffier, but his fur has thinned out significantly. He has a very silky texture, which I’ve noticed is unique for the breed since I haven’t seen too many other silky huskies. Anyone have an explanation as to why his fur is so silky?

Looks to show a little of the wooly gene. Not a full on fluff monster like many wooly coats can be, but expressing at least a little bit of it that causes the feathers. This is caused by a gene mutation in coat expression and is a fault in the breed (meaning out of standard and unacceptable in the show ring). Mixes will often see this happen as well.

The second picture was added after I saw this earlier (or maybe I just missed the picture)

I'd be inclined to think mix - at 14 months the ears are still to prominent, I'd have thought they'd have "come to size" by then; also the tail is laying on his back (snap tail?)

There is just something about him that says "Husky, but not quite ..." given that, he's a good looking boy.

The tail and feathers remind me of squirt. The tail position is alittle different, her tail feathers are almost a foot long. Its something ive wondered about since when i looked at akc excessive plumage is listed as different from wooly but also not acceptable for show. Lately ive come across several other types of Huskies aside from the sibe and the Alaskan.

Spider gets a really silky coat after she blows her coat until her new one grows in. Tho as shes gotten older its become less silky
