3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. If you really want a weight loss supplement (which I don't think you need truthfully) I would highly recommend adding a small amount of extra virgin coconut oil to his diet. While the coconut oil is high calorie and contains fats, it actually helps boost the metabolism which helps the dog lose weight and the fats it contains are the "good" fats. Coconut oil is one of those things that definitely needs to be used in moderation though, a little bit goes a long way If you do decide to use it start out small and work your way up slowly to the recommended daily dose which is 1 tbsp per 30 lbs of body weight. I don't even use that much, I've cut back to only 1 tsp for my 55 lb sibe but then again I use it for health benefits and for their skin/coat, not for weight management.

Since Dakota is 50 lbs now, and Storm is 105 lbs, could I ease into 2-3 tsps in Storm's food? Would that be a good amount to help boost his metabolism without adding too much fat?

BTW, did you know that 100% extra virgin coconut oil they sell for dogs is cheaper than the human version?? $8 vs $13! I don't know what the difference is as both are 100% extra virgin coconut oil!

You could absolutely give Storm more Coconut oil but just be mindful of the calories and don't go overboard. If you're giving 1 tsp currently then try 2 tsp for a while and make sure he continues to lose weight before upping it further to 3 tsp. That's just what I would do though, you could always try a higher amount instead and just monitor his weight like you are currently doing.

I order my coconut oil online for pretty cheap, I think mine costs less than $5 before shipping. I haven't compared prices for dog coconut oil to human CO.

I gave them 1 tsp each last night and then again this morning....they both really love it...but Ginger got some almost runny BMs my mid-day...

I'm going to wait a day or two and try again, but this time, I'll dissolve it and put it in their food.

I think I'll keep Ginger at 1 tsp a day and Storm at 2 tsp a day and cut back as he looses weight.

Maybe I'm seeing things, but I really think Storm's waist is even more defined lately!

I'll be weighing him end of next week because I have to check if I have to get an extra half dose of Heartguard, so we'll see how he's doing with the number on the scale. I measured his girth too so I'll have a reference point as far his actual size.
