Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Lawsuit against TOTW Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lawsuit against TOTW   Lawsuit against TOTW EmptySat Mar 09, 2019 12:03 pm

While I understand the problems with high lead levels I also have to ask whether TOTW (a Diamond Brand) knowingly allowed them.

Can we possibly test for every "bad thing" that might go into our dogs food (or our own for that matter) and even if we could test for it, could we afford it once all the testing was in place?

Rubidium, for example (one I just pulled out of my hat, btw) is an alkali metal not naturally found in the human body and isn't a major problem when it is - but, since it's not naturally found there do we want to have food tested for its presence because it might be a problem?

I don't have the time to go looking for it but at one time - fairly recently - we had an exchange regarding this same general issue.

I can't afford to feed my dog grass fed steaks. But I know that, if I did, there's no risk of lead or rubidium getting to her. So, I guess the idea is, something in between lead in the food and steaks.

So apparently acana and orijen have one too for mercury and other heavy metals. https://truthaboutpetfood.com/lawsuit-filed-against-champion-pet-food-acana-and-orijen/

Truth about petfood is unreliable. I don't trust anything this group (person) and wonder the agenda the testing. Very easy to sleep results.

Lawsuit against TOTW Empty
PostSubject: Re: Lawsuit against TOTW   Lawsuit against TOTW EmptySat Mar 09, 2019 9:48 pm

Wait, stop, this is insane!

First, I am not qualified to knowledgeably discuss either Susans article nor the one @amymeme points to.

What I do know is that when someone starts talking about "bacilli" as one thing then without noting that, for example, Streptococcus (commonly strep) is one of the class of bacilli then we're in real trouble.

I am not a "germ expert" by any stretch but when I start to read about various authors deriding other authors for their lack of knowledge or decrying that they have been brought out of retirement to fight this battle ---- I'm sorry, I stop reading. We've gone from the factual to the flights of "fake news" and I'm way past tired of that type of hysteria.

Thank the gods, I do not live in a bubble. Around me are probably several thousand (er, million, billion??) various infectious strains of something or the other - but I'm not dead from them - yet. That various dog foods have been found to be infected (sometimes just possibly infected) does cause me to perk my ears up a bit to read the article and then look a little further in depth. But it's going to take more than a few "parts per billion" to make me stop feeding my dogs - they might object!

Personally I think that it's necessary to know that there are "things" around us that can kill us but then we exercise reasonable precautions. For example we look both ways before we turn onto a street; we don't wander the dark areas of a strange city at 2:00 AM; we do make sure that the food we buy has been properly refrigerated or otherwise protected from spoilage; and finally we ignore the hysteria of someone who just wants hits on their web site ...

As @amymeme says - the same old poor science ....
