Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Earlier this year at the vet's office he mentioned he had a bit of arthritis in his back. But around the first of August he had more and more trouble getting up the steps. Then right before the 15th he could not go up the steps anymore. At 72 I couldn't pick him up. I had to hold him when he pooped, otherwise he would fall over. The vet agreed with my decision, it was getting hard for him to walk. I have not taken down his crate....I have not cleaned up his dog hair around it. He was 13. He's now united with his love, Jolene ( my heart dog) who died from complications from Cushings. She died 4 years ago at 8. He missed her so much. At my age there will be no more " new " dogs. I have a lab /border collie mix the Shelter GAVE me. Gallman is 5 and still is puppy acting. I have a GSD foster Lucy who is 7 but was outside on a SHORT chain her first 7 years. She had to learn how to walk on a leash. I'm honestly afraid my current dogs will outlive me......

| I'm sorry for your loss. I have a girl who has arthritis in one knee and also in her backbone so I watch her like a hawk. And, like you, I'm afraid that my three will outlive me ...
Gallman sounds like(s)he could be a trip, that's an interesting combination. Herder and retriever all in one dog.

| So sorry for your loss. It really doesn't matter what age we are. We should all consider making plans for our pets. It's too easy for a car accident to take us on our way home from the grocery store at any age to not give it some level of thought and consideration. For the most part we know where ours will go should something happen to both me and my husband. Same with my parent's dogs and cat. A lot of people think about what to do with their stuff should something happen. We TOD our cars to someone when we title them, we make trusts for our properties, but I believe the animals get forgotten about in the planning sometimes. _________________ |
