| Walked over to the Dr. Miller's office today on our walk for a short visit...as it turns out, Sully and Storm are about the same height. Storm just looks gigantor because he's double wide! However, as of April 1st, Storm has lost 4 lbs...woo hoo! (But we got a lot more to go...)

| What's Storm's history? Or have you already mentioned it? Do you know why he ended up at the foster home? |

| What I understand is for some reason, his original owners gave him up. He came from Kansas - no husky rescue in Kansas. He ended up in a foster home who wasn't familiar with the breed and stuck him in a small kennel with a bag of food and no exercise. Hence his weight issue. When another rescue found him, they contacted his foster in Denver and asked if she could take him in as he has AKC registration papers and full vet records. While he was in limbo in KS, they managed to get some weight off him before he came to Denver. His initial weight when he arrived was 112 lbs on April 1st. Today he weighed 108 lbs. His Denver foster strongly believes he came from a family that loved him because he is well behaved, trained and obedient....they just fell in to an unfortunate circumstance that he had to be surrendered.
We walked over to Dr. Miller's clinic (our vet), and she said Storm is no taller than Sully. Storm just looks bigger than Sully because he is wide. The first thing the receptionist said when we walked in was, 'Looks like Storm lost some weight - I can see a teeny tiny bit of a waist!' So she noticed...which is good!
That's all we know....he comes when we call his name, he doesn't pull, he knows sit, lay down, load-up...he walks to the back door when he has to pee...he sits and waits until it's 'OK' to take his food...he takes his treats gently, unless it's something like cheese (but that's only because it's hiding his thyroid meds in it)...and we love him!

| That's awesome! I should have waited to find the right rescue, I was just impatient. Don't get me wrong, I love Willow, but I had no intention of getting a puppy when I started out. This just reiterates to me that my next one needs to be a rescue. Again, Congrats! |

A puppy for me wasn't an option for 2 reasons: 1) I don't have the patience for puppy training 2) I believe there are TOO many deserving dogs out there that are 'instant dog' that needed to be found and given a second chance We lucked out on Ginger. I didn't know what the heck was to come when we brought her home. All I knew was that she needed plenty of exercise, challenge and structure. She's been the perfect, mellow husky with the right amount of energy for us at the right times. With Storm, we had a better idea of his demeanor before we took him for a weekend trial run with Ginger. I've had second husky on my mind for a couple of months until I ran into Storm. I was 'browsing' and not really looking...and Storm comes along... Good luck on your search for the perfect rescue for you! He/she is out there...just be patient! You'll run into each other soon enough! _________________ |

| We hope to have Storm down to 100 lbs by the end of May. We're taking him hiking this weekend! Not too much of an elevation gain, and it's about 5 or 6 miles round trip, but it'll still be good for all of us.
I hope to maintain the 1 lb per week weight loss through summer... _________________ |

| I was thinking the same thing! I saw it was supposed to get up to 80 degrees this weekend.
I was thinking about starting out by 9:30 and doing Lost Lake. I remember that we did that within 3-3.5 hours, correct?

I know Storm was just weighed a few days ago, but we had to go in to get his thyroid checked because he was showing symptoms that the dose may be too high and they weighed him again... May 6: Storm weighed in at 105.9 lbs. Yee Haw! We're hiking tomorrow...hubby's goal is to get him down to 100 lbs by the end of May. _________________ |
