| Hello everyone! Just wanted to say hello, I just got a new Husky from a local pet store (after reading I now see that perhaps that was a mistake). I have just recently learned of puppy mills and can say this is the last dog I will purchase from a pet store. Here is a picture of Rua (Celtic for Red Haired) because she has a redish look to her. |

| Hi Rua (okay, I had to go check - "rua" a red head! - sure enough!!)
You're a pretty girl and you and your master/mistress are in for so much fun! Just be nice with her for a while, then you can let all that Red Headed Husky come out!
Okay, you made a mistake - an all too common mistake - but she's got you now and that's all that matters. You have questions, ask away, someone here will probably have an answer for you.
Rua's mommy - who doesn't identify herself - has no idea of all the fun and aggravation that this little girl is gonna bring you! Welcome to the club!! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| So far she has definitely been a hand full. We got her at about 9 weeks old (she was born May 5th) and she is now just about potty trained. She already knows her sit and stay commands but darn is it difficult to get her to listen when she is in our back yard. She drives my wife crazy sometimes with her high energy levels, but we are getting accustomed! She finished her last round of puppy shots nearly a week ago so I am now starting to take her on walks and introduce her to other dogs. So far it's been fun! |

| She sure is a cutie, welcome to the forum! My (our family) very first Husky was from a pet store. I don't know if times were different back then but he had an excellent pedigree and lived to be 17 years old with virtually no health issues. Lots of educated, experienced members here, so should you find yourself needing any advice, just ask |

| Thank you very much! I definitely have been reading quite a bit and am already planning on switching her over to a RAW diet as she gets a bit older.
As for her pedigree, we have papers for her from the ACA (American Canine Association). Not sure if that means anything. |

| Welcome to the forum. Papers don't mean a lot since none of the associations do any quality control or testing to make sure the papered parents are the real parents of the pups. Best thing to look for when getting a pup is that the parents are being worked, either racing or showing to prove they are in breed standard and can perform the tasks the breed was made for without falling apart. Eye and hip testing on the parents is also valuable. A quality breeder won't allow their pups to be sold at pet stores because they want to ensure their pups go to good homes. A lot of places are trying to get pet stores to stop offering to sell dogs and cats. Most here only have shelter animals available for purchase and no longer allow dogs produced by breeders to be sold at their stores. It's been a nice transition. _________________ |

| Unfortunately I had no idea until after I bought my puppy and started doing research. I hope my puppy ends up being okay, I have contacted the breeder of record to try and get some information (not holding my breath) we will see if they get in touch with me.
She does however have bilateral patellar luxation grade 1. The vet told me not to worry about it though. |
