| Alright everyone I am curious what you all like to give your pups for tough toys, and bones. My two will go through toys like they are nothing. It has been warm out so they are resorting to the basement and want nothing more than to sit chewing and or playing tug o war over other toys. Wanting to know what stands up for you all and what you recommend My two are chewing monsters hahaha. TIA P.S. Also considering BulyMake boxes. |

| There is a thread about the various boxes that you might want to take a look at. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Mine get Himalayan chews, elk antlers, chicken feet, beef trachea, and the occasional goat hoof. The Himalayan chews seem to last the longest. _________________ |

| Bully bones, RAW deer cannon (leg) bones, deer antlers, Yak chews, giant rope bones, any animal ears I do myself, just scalded to remove hair then dehydrated, not smoked, not cured or preserved in any way, fish skin "leather" just scaled and dehydrated, cow hooves.
Most is homemade or found in the woods around here (antler sheds), even bully sticks and hooves come from the beef steers my father in law raises and slaughters, only Yak chews and roper bones are store bought. I do buy Dream Bones and Better than ears but, those go so fast, they are treats, not time wasters for the dogs. |

| My shoes...with me in them, hahaha. Kohdii likes to pounce on my feet while I'm walking away from him and get my shoes off of me
Both of mine love sticks, and have from an early age. Just gotta watch them with them because of pieces splintering/breaking off.
They also love pig/cow ears but go through them too fast. |

| Love all the fresh animal product suggestions. We live in the woods and find stuff all the time, of course I would only use fresh to clean and give to them. Then we have many farms and homesteaders that could be great resources for the other items. I will look into some new stuff, trying to keep them occupied. 90+ degree weather is making them hibernate in the house @Artic_Wind hahah. my pup likes to go after my running shoes too. Any time I put them on he and my girl (especially Shila) think I am taking them out, so the house gets a little crazy lol. |

| If you have a dehydrator or electric or propane smoker, bully sticks can be made from any male animal's penis. Split it vertically, wash it thoroughly, dry at about 165 degrees for 8-12 hours until it's as hard and chewy as your dog likes. No actual smoke needed if using a smoker but, you can dry them while you're smoking food for yourself too.
Put a tennis ball inside scrotums and, dry those too then, wet the open end (to soften it enough to sew it closed, add dehydrated treats or dog jerky, sew it closed with sinew and you have another chew toy.
Any ears and snouts/noses can be dehaired if needed, cleaned and dried and, if you like smoked, as dog chews. Strips of tongue make wonderful dog jerky.
Antler sheds are great chews, just gather them up, take them home, wash them in hot water and, if desired, cut them into the size pieces you like to give the dogs, a band saw works great for that just, remember, cutting them puts off quite a smell of burnt antler due to the heat cutting generates and, it isn't a good smell at all - do it outdoors or in a shop or garage with plenty of ventilation and, wear a dust mask when you cut them. Breathing in antler dust isn't good for you.
Hooves can be just washed and given but, if you don't want the dogs eating the soft tissue inside them, you can soak them for a week in water at room temperature then, clean all of that out - though it does stink doing it that way.
Any bones can be cleaned by soaking them in water for anywhere form a week to several months then, using high pressure water (either a hose nozzle or pressure washer) to clean the decayed soft tissue off of them. They are still raw and , clean that way. A mist of hydrogen peroxide and, a few hours out in the sun kills bacteria and, bleaches them.
Even intestines can be cleaned and dehydrated to make dog chews - braid them after cleaning for a larger, tougher chew.
All bits nobody much wants but, with homesteads and ranches that slaughter for themselves, hunters and such around, they are easy items to get for free or, for simply helping with a butcher. You'll also come up with free organs and, raw bones with scraps of meat still on them by helping neighbors butcher and, once they know you want that sort of stuff for your dogs, and will take whole, fresh road kills, those things find their way to you.
We buy a steer every other year form my father in law, other than that and the cost of feed for my rabbits and chickens, and the cost of a few hunting bullets, my pack eats for free and, 99% of other chews are free too. (most of the steer is for us, the dogs get organs, green tripe, chews as above and, meaty bones out of it.)
Because of where we live, wild hogs can be taken year around so, there's always pork for the dogs. If you're going to go the wild and free route to dog feeding, remember dogs aren't squeamish about what meat they eat, nuisance animals that can be taken any time or, helping a rancher with a depredation hunt can get you free meat for the dogs.
