I finally got the pups out for a summit, well 2 this past sat. I have been busy tackling some of CO's harder peaks that they just could not do. This was Finn's first 13er and 14er and he did great! I was more tired after this hike then i have been all season, took much effort to hold him back on the uphill and down hill! So glad Jack just cruised along up the trail.

ok on to the best part, cute pups on mountains.

Great pics. I'm totally jealous of your hiking adventures. I used to live in Longmont. Wasn't into hiking then. Can't wait for our dogs to get a bit older and I can take them on some hikes. I started backpacking a year or so ago and have done many of the local summits. Nothing around me 14,000 feet but, starting at sea level, the 10,000-11,000 foot summits are HARD. Smile I'm going to do Mt Whitney in September, though. Smile

Would love to hear how you got the dogs used to hiking, wearing packs etc. I'd only take one until our two would walk nicely together, but would love to take both at some point.

Whew, coming from sea level, I know I would be gasping and wheezing at that altitude!
I backpacked in the Rockies as a teen, and for the first few days, I used to wake up at night in my tent with my heart pounding and feeling like there wasn't enough air.

Beautiful hiking pics with beautiful dogs!
Are they carrying their own water in their packs?

i worked the dogs up around the neighborhood wearing their packs and adding weight to it. Jack carries 2 liters and Finn carries one. all year we train on local trails leading up to bigger hikes. it takes some time but they know what the backpacks mean!
they carry water, bowls, food, treats, dog booties, mushers wax, vet tape and poop.

Mt Whitney is on my list!!!

I had to look it up:
"Mount Whitney is the tallest mountain in California and the highest summit in the contiguous United States and the Sierra Nevada, with an elevation of 14,505 feet "

Wow, Good Luck!
