| Does anyone else have a pup who attracts trouble (goes looking for it)?
I have spent more time at the vets in the six months I have had Loki than I have myself at the doctors the last few years combined :p
Ran head first full speed into a pole. Blood nose for hours. Went cliff diving... I am still traumatised! Stepped on his first bee. Had his first reaction to a bee on his second stint. Eye infection that almost took two courses of medicine. Third bee yesterday saw him with breathing difficulties. I checked with the vet what I can have on hand in case this happens when I’m out on a boat / at the cabin (hours away from anywhere). He gave me some needles and take home version of what they give him. I am assuming it’s standard antihistamines?
He will be due for desexing soon and I’m going to have them X-ray his hips and maybe knees while he is under. Starting to watch him hop a tad bit when he runs. Fingers crossed I’m just being paranoid. I would rather know now if something was not right though.
So, please reassure me that all puppies are trouble magnets. I’m starting to wonder :p |

| Husky puppies are magnets for trouble, feel better? seriously, I think Loki has a very active life, full of adventure and open space, so trouble may find him a bit more than others. Rest assured though, most huskies do find their share of trouble. Mishka has had the swollen bee sting face, she has found herself in the pool twice (with the help of Kohdi) she has run full speed through the backyard (Kohdi was chasing her) and misjudged her step and slammed her back leg on the edging of the pool so hard that when she cried out, I wanted to cry, she has had several UTI's with the initial ones symptoms having me convinced she had a blockage from a rawhide, so I had a panic attack, LOL, but all in all not too bad for her 4 years, but she is in suburbia, haha. Kohdi, except for an ear infection that cleared up basically on its own (I know this because his ear drops ended up everywhere BUT his ear, haha) he has been "trouble" free. <knock woôd> |

| Haha, not feeling as better as I thought I would but thanks lol! I can 100% relate to the feeling when they cry out from having hurt themselves! Poor thing, I was cringing just reading that. Funnily enough I went from balling my eyes out and rocking him like a baby with his first few minor injuries to only rolling my eyes yesterday watching him struggling to breath after he swallowed a bee. Used to call the vets hysterically now it’s “yep, me again. I’ll be there in five” I hadn’t made the connection with his lifestyle. I was thinking the opposite seeing as he lives in an apartment I figured he had less exposure. But now that you mentioned that I realise the only time he is in an apartment is for a few hours morning and afternoon during the weekdays. Evenings and weekends are spent 100% in strange outdoors environments. Now I feel better! :p Are ear infections common with these guys too? I’m used to eye infections from the horses but hadn’t even considered ear infections! I can sympathise with the ear drops. The eye cream three times a day was a challenge. |

| Ha, I remember rocking Mishka, too! Her face just showed so much pain after it happened. I still vividly remember that day. These little beings sure can give us some scares! I used to have a Husky that did seem to actually look for trouble, LOL, he was the brother of a brother/sister pair I had. When he was like, 12 weeks old, we were in the house and I kept hearing this plastic bottle hitting the walls, I thought they both had a plastic bottle and we're playing with it. Well, it was sort of, only when I went to go see what they were up too, I found Blitz walking around aimlessly with a big plastic jar stuck to his head! It was so funny, and so cute, however, when I tried to take it off, his head was stuck inside it! Every time I pulled, it was like his neck stretched! I went into panic mode like you wouldn't believe. I was afraid he would suffocate! I ended up running to a neighbors house who must have pooped his pants when he opened the door to find me and baby Blitz with his head inside a plastic jar. He got the jar off, and we ended up laughing about it but he admitted when he saw my face, he knew I was panicked. I had LOTS of experiences from that little guy, LOLOL. He was one I used to find in the refridgerator quite often, getting him and his sister stuff out to eat. I had to put chairs in front of the refridgerator! He opened doors, kitchen cabinets (to this day I still have the child proof locks on the kitchen cabinets I installed because of him) he could even open the back yard gate and let himself out, using the latch! He and his sister walked right past me one day while washing the car, without me even seeing them, and went exploring one of my neighbors yard til another neighbor came and said to me "did you know your dogs are across the street?" I look over and there they were having the time of their lives running around my neighbors grass! Ugh, too many stories with him, lol. ...ok, you have to be feeling better now, right?!!! Ear infections...they do seem to get them, but I wouldn't say it's often. Kohdi has only had the one and I believe it was because he and I went running one night, it was "raining" (a light but constant steady rain) and when we got home, I should have made sure I dried his ears. Since I grew up with Huskies, I know my mom always made sure she dried off their ears really good if they ended up getting wet. Now I know why and I make sure I dry them off good should they get wet Eye infections are something I've never experienced with any of my Huskies. I meant to ask you in my last post, but what do you mean when you say Loki hops a tad bit when he's running? |

| Aww that just reminds of when he bit his tongue as a pup. The screaming and look on his face! Haha! Ok now I definitely feel better. Unfortunately it sounds like we have a copy cat over here in Aus he is far smarter than I have him credit for! If I take the lazy way out of dog proofing something he will be right there within seconds showing me why that was a bad idea! The using a latch thing terrifies me I have seen him work it and always wondered if he was smart enough to actually figure it out..... thanks to your story I’ll be buying some baby locks too lol! Something so simple! Had never thought to dry his ears. Thank you. I will now. When he runs his back legs pop up together. It’s more within his stride than a pain reflex and the vet has had a good look and feel and doesn’t seem worried. But for peace of mind I figured it can’t hurt :/ it will make watching him run and play at the park a bit less stressful anyways I hope. |

| Aw, poor guy Yay! I made you feel better ...Blitz used to watch me open things, then he did it. He was scary smart. I know right! I think dogs ears can get wet too if they play with other dogs, often the other dog bites the ear area and scruff of the neck area. And here is a cute little tid bit...if you have a male and a female dog, normally the female will take care of the males ears. The vet once told me, with my last two huskies, when he examined Malukhai's ears, he looked at me and said they were the cleanest ears he's ever seen, and then said, Anuschka must clean them for him, right?...I said yes, she sure does. Mishka does it with Kohdi too so I'm assuming it's pretty common in dog pairs. Hmm, can't really picture the hop thing Loki does. Huskies do have some hops to their runs sometimes, there's a cool video I've seen of a husky just bouncing through an open field similar to a deer, lol, but not sure if that's what you mean. Like you said though, x-rays won't hurt and can give you peace of mind. |
