Hey everyone I am new to the forum and I will definitely be posting pictures of sugar my 3 month old Siberian.

I am writing because this is the second time in a week that one of her pupils has gotten considerably smaller than the other. I brought it up to the vet and he just dismissed it and said that it was something that was controlled by her brain. Which was pretty useless information. Has this happened to anyone? On sugar it stays like this for about 10-15 minutes, then it goes away. Very confused about this and would like some clarification. She is going to the vet tomorrow so hopefully I can get some answers but would love any insight you all can give me.

While I don't know much about neurological conditions of dogs, unequal pupils in humans often has an underlying neurological causes behind it. Unfortunately, your dog doesn't seem to be exhibiting any other signs and symptoms other than the pupils themselves which also resolves on its own in a very short time span.

While we can speculate about a whole host of problems, I think if your vet is dismissing it, I wouldn't be too overly concerned. While you can undergo a whole host of tests including blood work, neurological scans, etc...without further symptoms to show for it, I think you'll find that the tests will come back all normal leaving you with a very expensive vet bill and no further answers to what is causing this.

I think you SHOULD bring it up to your vet again, maybe seek a second opinion of another, but I wouldn't be too concerned if your dog isn't showing any other signs or symptoms or the unequal pupils don't resolve on its own.

Rocker David Bowie had a permanently dilated pupil, resulting from slight neurological damage following getting punched in the face as a child by a friend of his. Some people think he had one dark eye and one light blue eye, but he really had uneven pupils. Reportedly, other than having some trouble with depth perception, his eyesight was otherwise fine.

She is all good, according to the second opinion from another vet it could be from a hit to the head her pupils are fine now. They said that if she isn't showing any confusion and or trouble walking and is acting normal she is fine.

They also stained her eye to see if she had any scratches and she has none. I will keep monitoring her but from what I have been told she probably just banged her head or it can be he way the light entered her eye.

I'm glad the vets feel she is fine. I'm not sure if I'd even notice a pupil being larger than the other and I'm told my attention to detail is pretty precise so good on you for taking notice of it. I used to have 3 other Huskies that ended up having idiopathic epilepsy, and I could swear at times one eye would not be the same size as the other, the entire eye though, not the pupil, similar to a lazy eye but not quite as extreme. With some of the posts in this thread talking of neurological conditions, bumps on head, etc. I wonder now if I was indeed seeing something that could have been related to their epilepsy. I'll never know now, but this topic you posted got me to thinking about it.

I don't mean to scare you, but I just went through a similar issue with one of my pups, although his one eye was enlarged and the vet said he was fine. I believe though pupils that get smaller and then correct and repeat aren't a big issue, it's when they enlarge is when there might be a problem, mine had the one enlarged, vet - it's fine, month later - still enlarged and bulging, vet - let's wait, blood in eye vet, vet, vet, specialist, he had glucoma, had to remove his eye. You can as I should have get a second opinion
