Hi I have a one year old Siberian husky that i longboard with, and wanted to know if anyone knows of a cheap alternative to longboarding. I run with her but it's getting cooler outside so i cant keep up with her anymore. i was looking into scooter joring but could not find an inexpensive scooter. If you guys know of a cheap scooter or other inexpensive methods please let me know.

Thank You.

I bikejore. Depends on how cheap you want to go. I have the walky dog attachment which was pretty cheap. There's also a springer attachment (both are side attachments) that is more expensive but a very nice and stable attachment. You could look into rollerskating or rollerblading as well. If you keep an eye on locale FB swap groups and yardsale groups stuff usually come up, especially this time of year when people don't want to store them through winter if they don't think they will use them.

Have you tried a dog backpack? My pup is a crazy dog, but I can't run to save my life, and I'm so clumsy I fell off the scooter all the time lol.

Instead, we take long walks or hikes and she wears a backpack with a few water bottles in it to add weight. A half hour walk with the backpack is equal to about an hour walk without it.

We have this one which I like. We tried others, but they seemed to make her uncomfortable. This one has good padding on the spine and balances the weight evenly.

I have been bikejoring. It takes a little getting used to (especially for the pup), but works really well once you have it figured out. Smile Because of my location, I have to go to parks to do it, but quiet neighborhoods are great, too! Like Anyaluv, I am also too clumsy for a scooter and can't run as long as my dog needs, so I've found this to be a good alternative! I actually tie my dog down to the post that is supporting the seat of the bike, which I find gives me more stability than attaching her to the front (she's content to run along side the bike, though, so if your dog needs to be in front, the side fixture may not work).

I'm going to start scooter joring with my husky next spring. I ran into some of the same issues when looking for scooters. They either cost a fortune ($400-$600 and even $800+ is not uncommon), or they are basically larger versions of kid scooters.
Toucan has a decent looking, relatively cheap option though. They have a version with 20" wheels, front suspension, and disc brakes. It basically checks off all the minimum requirements I have for a scooter. Highest quality? Probably not, but then again I'm not using it to go 60mph down mountain passes. And with a price tag at or under $250, it looks like a decent starting point to try things out.

I've considered bike joring, but honestly, with the temperament of my dog, I'm not comfortable with that. The scooter will give me a better ability to control the situation or bail if I need to.

The safest option is the bike joring sidebar systems. The dog is still assisting with pulling the bike, but is in a safe, secure position beside the bike instead of in front of the bike. There are some issue with it though. It looks dumb (not the most important, but a factor lol), beyond that though, it takes up a lot of space and simply wouldn't work around my area as it would take up the entire path/trail in most places. They have some of these for scooters also.

I plan to get a tug n tow system for any bike or scooter I go joring with also. No funny dangling bits off the bike/scooter. No worries about entanglements with wheels.

I suggest doing a LOT of research. Scooters are also referred to as push bikes or kick bikes in some areas, so changing up your search terms can get you some new results.

Thank you Kmanweiss for telling me about the toucan scooters, and how they are called push bikes or kick bikes. I do like the toucan 20 in. wheel bike and how it has all of my personal requirements like disk brakes and suspension. Resonantly i built a pvc bike noodle to go bikejoring with my dog and it seems to work for now. I definitely will be considering the toucan scooter. Thank you again for telling me about it.

Toucan is a good option. They are priced less as they use less expensive components BUT for occasional and recreational use they work great. A friend used one pretty extensively here. You may also find some of the other more expensive brands for sale used. I have seen several in the last couple of months on facebook groups.
