| Hey guys, so our boy Loki is just over 6 months now and its almost like an overnight shift in behaviour...
We thought we had it beat but the mouthing has started up again. I know its mainly excitement, he comes up to us with the biggest smile on his face and first thing he does is go for a hand or anything dangling. He does not bite but you sure know he is there. This has become a bit of an issue because we have a few family members and friends that are still a bit timid of his pearly whites. I have been working on the yelp and ignore technique but haven't seen much progress. He's also pretty good at listening to the "NO" command but by the time you say no its too late hes already mouthed you.... sigh
Secondly and I have a hard time not laughing when he does this... PAWING. He gets a little older and those massive front paws need to be up on everyone. I get that he is excited and he uses it for "hey, hey, hey, PLAY WITH ME" but its not a behaviour id like to reward with play.
I'm looking for any suggestions to stop these trends before they become habitual.... ANY advice welcome.
Cheers |

| With any mouthing, which woulda been only Kohdi, maybe it's a boy thing, I don't know, he'd stop whenever I said "ah ah" he'd complain about having to stop, but he'd stop. What I've noticed over the years with all my huskies is, the mouthing isn't something that normally stuck with them, it was always sort of a phase, I guess. If they did it, or started to do it, I'd just say ah ah, and they'd bitch and complain, but they never took it further. Others may have had other experiences, and I hope they post to help you out, this is just basically how it's been for me. With the pawing. I gave up, lol. Here are my two with my latest guest to the house. On walks, if Kohdi would start to go up, I'd just put pressure on his leash so he'd come back down. Guests to the house, well, they're on their own, lol. (I know, it's not funny. I just have no advice for you on this one ) |

| Welcome to the terrible teens. Where they turn into demons overnight and forget everything you taught them. Go back to basics. Treat him like a new puppy that knows nothing and keep him on a tight leash so to speak. Don't give him what he wants. He paws you turn away and ignore him. He only gets what he wants if he is calm. Stay diligent and you will get through. As he matures he will grow out of it. _________________ |
