Hello everyone! My name is Kim. I'm excited to be here and learn from you all.
I've owned various dogs my whole life, but a few years ago my cousin started keeping huskies and I fell in love with them. They're so smart, funny, playful and unique.
My husband and I have 2 rescue dogs- a pitbull we've had for 8 years and a pit/mix that hid under our rental car on our honeymoon and we brought her home.
Yesterday I heard about a 9-month-old female husky in need. Her owner's akita was not being friendly to her and she was having to be crated constantly.
We adopted her and brought her home. Introductions went fantastic- she played with our pups like old friends and was very polite with our cats.
We named her Bowie because she's heterochromatic- left eye brown/blue and right eye blue.
She is the SWEETEST thing! I couldn't be happier.
If you all have any new husky parent advice or stories I'd love to hear them.
Thank you again for the add!

Below are some pictures of Bowie and her and Houston (our pit-mix) playing. It was such and exciting dog night for them all!

Welcome to the forum. Biggest advice I can give is keep up with exercise and be vigilant where the cats are concerned. As she becomes more comfortable she might want to chase and you will want to nip that quickly. That last picture kinda looks like she might have a bit of cherry eye going on in her left eye. If so you will want to keep an eye on that and have a vet check to make sure it's not causing her problems. She's very pretty.

Thank you, TwisterII. I am keeping very close watch on her with the cats; I don't want any issues down the road. Both the pibbles had crazy high prey drives but we were able to teach them to leave the cats alone and now they lie together.

I was wondering about her eye. The nictitating membrane retracts sometimes but it's definitely redder than I'd like. My best friend works at the veterinary office we go to. I sent her pictures when I got home last night and she said to just watch her for a few days to see if it changes. They are open 7 days a week, so I can get an appointment for her if it doesn't seem to get better in a few days.
