| Hello everybody This is my first husky and before getting her I did A TON of research on these dogs to learn everything about them. But one thing was left out...what do I do with her when I'm at work?! There is always somebody home with her except for on Fridays and every other Thursday. She would be alone for about 6-7 hours. We do have a crate for her that she sleeps in at night and sometimes she will go nap in her crate (without us telling her to go in) so I'm pretty sure she likes her crate! yay! Since she is in the crate at night, I'd hate to leave her in there for 6-7 hours after already being in there at night. She would get let out in the morning for about an hour or so before going back in for the day time but it seems so mean!! I also DO NOT want her running around the house unsupervised either, not only for potty training purposes but also because I don't want to see the fluff from my couch everywhere or what my walls are made out of! Any suggestions? Also, once she's older and trained is it ok to let her lose in the house? Or will I always need to worry about her chewing everything up? |

| It's not mean. They sleep most of the day while we are gone. As long as you are tiring her out and getting her in some good exercise before crating her she will be fine once she is old enough to hold her bladder for the full time. Until she is able to hold her bladder if you have a friend or someone you trust who could come by on those days and let her out on a lunch break maybe? Once she has her puppy shots done you may also look at doggy daycare on those days until she is old enough. Doggy daycare will really help tire her out and get her socialization as well as take some stress off of you about finding someone to let her out to potty mid-day.
Some dogs eventually get where they can be let out and won't eat your house and some can't be trusted even when they are old. Each dog is different in that respect. You will just have to feel her out on that as she ages. If you decide to give it a try always start with a puppy proofed room and keep her in it. I have three that are out and they get the run of one room where there isn't too much for them to destroy if they got the bright idea to. _________________ |

| Only thing I could possibly add would be to consider getting a portable pen; steel panel sections that you connect together to establish a limited space for the puppy to occupy.
Put the crate in the play pen, and you have limited the amount of room she has to roam, and yet, isn't locked inside the crate. Giving her 5'-0" X 5'-0" space with the crate inside will allow her to relieve herself outside the crate. |

| Thank you for the responses, they are really helpful! It is very comforting to hear that it isn't an evil thing to do to crate your dog! I am planning on taking her out on a good walk/run before crating her and again when I get home. I'm also going to look into a doggy day care..I thought of that before but didn't look into it. I love her as a puppy but I can't wait until she's grown up! haha
