Hey!

I switched Juno over to Taste of the Wild last week. She was started on Nutri source by the breeder. I've been feeding her based on how hungry she acts and weight gain/loss. I was feeding her 1 & 1/4 cups per day. 1/2 cup morning and night, and 1/4 in the afternoon. That was working out fine until I noticed she was asking for food more, and she was looking thinner. So I switched to 1/2 cup for all three meals. This seems to be doing okay for her, but I was looking at the Taste of the Wild bag just now, and it says for her age and weight that she needs 2 & 1/2 to 3 & 1/2 cups per day?

She is almost 11 weeks, and roughly 14-15 lbs if I had to guess. She was 11.7lbs when I got her at 8 and a half weeks.

My question is, am I not feeding her enough? She walks with me about 2 miles per day (give or take), and she is chasing my cats and playing almost constantly. Is 1 and 1/2 enough?

Puppies usually eat more than adults because they are growing and using it more. Two of my adults ate 2 cups a day. That said if she weighs fine and has good energy then I would feed what gets you the result you are after. If she is getting fat on more then she doesn't need more because you don't want a pudgy puppy even if it is cute. Huskies do have a tendency to eat less than the feeding guidelines on most foods. As her growth spurts hit you may have to up her amount again. 3-5 months old you could see a huge amount of growth and may need more. Gauging body shape is a good way to figure that though and finding what works for her.

I kept Kale's food dish down for 10 mins and let him eat his fill till he was about 6 months. After that I started measuring his food. I started with the recommendation on the back of the bag; after that it's monitoring your dog for weight loss/weight gain and adjusting appropriately. Every dogs metabolism rate is different; the amounts listed on the back of the bag are a starting point.

Thanks for the info! I worry that if I let Juno have her way with her food, she would weigh twice what she is supposed to.



I bumped her up to 3/4 cups of food, three times a day. She got taller and longer overnight, it seems. She was also beginning to look thin. Since upping her intake, she seems a better weight. I hope! She has her first vet appointment (since my owning her) on tuesday, so I'll find out then if I'm feeding the naughty puppy enough! Haha
