| Hello, my name is Hannah and I am a new member to this forum. I wanted to come here to see if other husky owners could help me with a problem I am having with my own Husky. My fiance, Eric and I recently adopted a 7 month old husky who we named Kovu. We've had him for over a month and he has become the love of our lives. There is something that concerns me about him though. When he first got him we could tell he had been abused and we tried our hardest to help him and he's truly come a far way. But when we did first get him whenever we would give him water he would drink it so fast he would later throw it up. When he does this there is no warning signs at all. It's like he just opens his mouth and it all comes out. We assumed whoever had him before limited his water so he felt he had to drink what he could. Slowly he has learned that we do not limit his water and whenever he asks we refill it. Unfortunately he still drinks it so fast he throws up. I looked up ways to help with this and one suggestion was to put a rock in his bowl to slow him down. We ended up putting a large rock in there so he can't take as big of gulps. This has helped but every once in awhile he still does it. My fiance thinks he's fine and just needs to learn but I'm a bit concerned there might be more going on. Sometimes when he vomits the water there will be bits of food in it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or if there is a bigger concern here? Please help. |

| My dog does this same exact thing. It isn't every time he drinks, but when we let him out of the crate in the afternoon he drinks a ton. It's just from drinking too much too fast, I wouldn't worry about it. |

| You may try using a shallow dish for water (like a cookie sheet) or get a slow feeder bowl so he has to work for the water. A slow feeder bowl has a few more grooves to work around than a rock so may help out. For the most part as he ages and get used to the place he will probably slow down on his own. I have one that will drink way too much at bedtime. Think it's an obsession thing or routine thing. Usually I will interrupt him with something if he's just sitting there like he's going to drain the whole bowl and then once he's had a break then I will let him go back to it. Over time he has learned to stop or he will be stopped so he regulates himself now. _________________ |

| Hello all. We have the same thing happening! But a lot! Our little guy is 13 weeks old and probably vomits water about 75% of the time he drinks. We have restricted the amount we give him each time, but it doesn't seem to help. There aren't a ton of responses here, so I don't know if I should be concerned or not. I am not a fan of taking him to the vet for a ton of testing and radiology if not needed. Would love to get more feedback. |

| Bodhi has done that since I got him. It's not a lot of water that he vomits, just a small amount. It comes back in a kind of spasmodic reflex. He drinks too fast and is getting air in with the water. We have put his water dish on a stool, and given smaller amounts of water. This has helped a little. But he still does it. My vet is not worried as long as it is not the whole amount of water he drank. |

| Three dogs: Avalanche - gulp, gulp, gulp - ah, good! Sasha - slurp, slurp - that's all for now. Sky - slurp, slurp - gag, who put the hair in the water.
So, I'm trying to be kinda funny with my response but that's about the way it works. Avalanche and Sasha drink from the same water bowl as Sky but it's almost definite that after Sky drinks a bit she's going to sound like she got hair in her throat from the water ... and ditto Michael's comment, what Sky tosses is minimal. Like if you drink a soda and realize that there's something in there, like a fly or bee, that shouldn't be, you don't lose everything you've already drunk, just the little bit that's in your mouth. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
