| Hello Everyone... I have a 4 month husky who is great.
Since I got him I have been trying to potty train him along with crate training and basic commands. It's been an extremely tough task. Because this is the only dog I have .. I decided to put him in dog daycar a few days a week for socialization etc. He does great there
My dog absolutely hates the crate he will bark for hours. When it comes to potty training he seems just not to care he will go pee outside as soon he's back in for a few minutes he pees right on the floor.
Since the very beginning the daycare center has told me he loves the crate and he had no accidents.. originally I thought they were just telling me what I wanted to hear. Today I decided to ask the owner how come he loves the crate here but at home he hates it and etc. she gave me a spill about how she believes that some dogs personality are so outgoing that they prefer to have another dog in the family and they adjust so much better. To test this theory out I watched my parents dog over the weekend and my huskys behavior was completely different he had no problems with the crate no accidents in the house and he was 100x more playful than he usually is (and he's pretty energetic by himself)
I am now wondering if I should get a second dog . Do you think this is possible for him to behave differently when other animals are around? I don't want to get a second dog just to correct his behavior but he seems to thoroughly enjoy the company to where he does what he has learned
What are your thoughts |

| It depends on the second dog. If you rescue an older dog that is already well behaved, it could be okay, but if you get a puppy or a dog that doesn't have good training already then you could just add to the work load. Another dog can learn bad behavior from him just as easily as he could potentially learn good behavior from another dog. It is always going to be better to tighten the reigns on him and get him under control than to bandaid it. With another dog he could just as easily go back to the way he was the instant the dog is gone such as if the other dog has to spend the night at the vet or if you have to take it to the groomer and leave him behind. _________________ |

| First off, you have a 4 month old puppy. Much like kids they want stuff they don't need. Of course he wants that extra socialization, but he doesn't necessarily need it. Training, and making sure he gets enough exercise is key. A bored husky is a problem waiting to happen. It may be that at the daycare he gets more exercise and attention than he does at home and he's rebelling because you aren't spending enough time with him or getting him enough exercise. I'm not accusing, just offering a potential issue.
Getting another dog when you have one out of control could very well be a disaster. The new dog could learn from the old dog. They might both end up with bad habits. They may not get along well at all. Getting a younger dog would probably be a bad idea, and getting an older dog (most likely from a shelter) could bring even more bad behavior into the mix.
Beyond that, do you have the time and money to deal with two dogs?
I'd suggest getting control of your puppy first. Fix the behavior issues, and then if you still feel it would be a good idea, you're in a much better position to do so. |

| So let me share some lessons we've learned with Lucy and maybe that will help. When we brought Lucy home we already had another older large breed dog, Buddy. Buddy is 6 y/o and he's a 70lb lab/border collie mix. Buddy is very well trained, zero issues. The two of them get along GREAT, playing, wrestling, etc. I think it definitely made potty training a little easier since Lucy could watch Buddy and learn when/where to go. If you did get a 2nd dog I'd recommend an older dog as previously stated. Our biggest challenge with potty training was that Lucy would drink SO MUCH water and she had to go so often, but Huskies are smart and will learn quickly with consistent training.
Your 2nd issue - the crate.
In our experience Lucy HATES to be alone, in or out of the crate, and especially while in the crate. Huskies definitely have that pack mentality and want to be with you all the time. If she feels like she is missing out on fun time, she will freak out. When we would crate her during the DAY we would lock the dogs in the same room together so she wasn't alone. Just recently we had to move all the dogs to sleep with us in our bedroom (in their crate) because Lucy would wine all night long, literally. As soon as we moved them into our bedroom, boom she slept perfectly fine, no noises.
All that being said, it sounds like you can fix these issues w/out getting another dog. Just stick with obedience training, positive and consistent reinforcement, and LOTS of exercise. I notice a HUGE difference in my Husky on the days we don't go for a run...good luck. |

| Our 4 almost 5 month old is a bit inconsistent with potty training as well. She will go outside when we are home and when I take her out at night and first thing in the morning she poops/pees pretty much on command. The issue is when we aren't home she will half the time use the dog door and other times just poop or pee on the floor. As frustrating as it is, I think she will get over it and become more consistent the more we praise her for going outside and we have to just accept for now she is going to do it sometimes until one day it clicks (hopefully). I couldn't imagine trying to bring another dog into the mix at this stage. I'd stick with your training and be patient, but I'm no expert on dogs or Huskies! |

| it was a bit difficult to get him to not go pee inside even with Joey's help. my mom and brother didn't want him playing inside so, i think that delayed him linking that inside was his space too. it couldn't hurt to "lets play inside" it took a few days and it finally clicked. leo was about that age when he finally got the potty outside. |
