| Subject: Is this puppy Purebred? Fri Oct 21, 2016 4:05 pm | |
| Hello, I'm buying a Husky puppy soon but I'm not sure if it is purebred or not. It doesn't matter if it is I just want to know. She isn't papered but the person I'm buying them owns the mom and dad. I'm going over this weekend to look at the puppy so I'll be able to check the parents out. Is there anyway to post pictures here? So I can post a picture of the puppy |

| Welcome to the forum Julina! If you look at the right hand upper top of this main page it will say stickies and announcements....it says How to upload pics. just click the link and it should tell you how. I am not good at giving directions, so just give a yell if you have issues and I am sure someone else can help you more. |

| As I've done with others, I've offered to post it for her if she emails it to me. The sticky hasn't kept up with the changes that have been made with servimg so it's not a while lot of help. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Unfortunately, without provable tracked lineage there is no way to guarantee the dog is purebred. Nor should they be advertised as such by the breeder. Please be sure the breeder has had the parent dogs properly health screened (OFA hips and OFA eyes at the BARE minimum) and is able to prove such before you commit to buy. Puppies are cute for sure, but you don't want the heartache of a dog riddled with heritable disorders because the breeder wasn't responsible. |

| Herewith said picture: If anyone *ever* figures out how to rotate a servimg file would you please let me know!! Now, Julina, the answer you're probably going to get is something like "It looks like a Husky." (cute puppy, btw) but at that age determining whether it's a purebred or not is virtually impossible. We've seen plenty of puppies who look purebred till they get a bit older and the muzzle, for example, starts developing into its adult form - and is obviously *not* a Husky. When you go to your meet and greet, get a couple of pictures of the parents - and that's a legitimate request of the breeder - and assuming that a good breeder is not going to try to "substitute" in a ringer - then we can tell you whether this pup is indeed probably a purebred Sibe. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I'm going to look at them this Sunday, I'll try and get some pictures of the parents for this post. The breeder says the puppies aren't papered but we will be able to meet the parents which is good. |

| I didn't get a picture of the parents but they are both black huskies, the mother is a bit more grey and black. They also have the mother of the dad and she is pure black and white husky wit blue eyes n |

| They might working line huskies, in which case not necessarily purebred. Would love to see more pics of the puppy. |

| Judah, I think you might be thinking of "Alaskan Huskies", they are very definitely working dogs and are a planned<??> mix of Husky and only the gods know what else - bred specifically for work either weight or distance or both.
When we refer to working line here, we're still referring to purebred dogs, just that they are more apt to be in front of a sled than in a show ring - though we have (at least) one member who does both with some absolutely beautiful dogs.
I, living in Texas, have two Sibes (Sasha and Sky) and one Alaskan (Avalanche). _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Oh I see. I didn't think about it much when I said it but when I say working line I picture Seppala Huskies rather then Alaskan Huskies. But it could be either. (Or neither, lol) Pure black pure bred huskies seem pretty rare though, so that makes me a little skeptical of the pure genetics. |

| Advertising "working lines" or "show lines" or even "Champion bloodlines" are very misleading and often designed to mislead buyers into thinking there is a quality there that has been lost. Without tending a line's potential and planning breedings carefully (by selectively choosing breeding stock, health testing, and proving dogs to still be of that merit) there is no way to guaranteeing the puppies created of this breeding will meet the potential of their forebears...especially if the last dogs of proven merit are generations past. |
