Help a furparent out Hey guys. I own an 11 month old and beautiful Husky and she's shedding like craazzzyyy for almost 6 months now. Now, don't even start about lecturing me on not doing a research before getting this dog because I did a lot of research and I expected for this to happen. So, back to topic, I'm just super worried cause she's shedding thick fur for too long now it doesn't feel normal. And also, her fur is all over the house and
sometimes it gets frustrating. How do you guys minimize this problem? Any methods, practices, supplements or vitamins you guys can suggest? Really hoping for replies. Thank you!

My wooly boy blows coat from sometime late Mar/early April through Aug, maybe into Sept. The first step to limit fur-fly is brushing outdoors. Or, I imagine, a high speed dog blow dryer would also send the fur flying. I haven't tried one because my boy heads for the hills at any tool with a loud sound.

Second, I use a swiffer once or twice a day in the high traffic areas on hard floors. As for carpets...well that is just plain a pain in the neck. I have one in a back hall that bisects the slate foyer area and the vinyl floored laundry room - its worn, red, shows ALL the schmutz that gets dragged in and acts like velcro to Ami's white fur. I've found I can cut down on vacuuming by sweeping that area with a corn broom - short, brisk strokes into the laundry room where I can pick up the crap with a dust pan.

Mr. Dog is not allowed in the living room (which we don't use much, anyway) but the family room. Ugh. That is a HUGE room with a large oriental on top of another carpet (don't ask!) That is all light in color so it doesn't show as much but still holds the fur - just have to bite the bullet and vacuum. And vacuum. And vacuum.

The worst is how the fur gets on clothing. Husband hates it. I wear it as a badge of honor. The easiest way I have found is to put on a rubber glove, lay the clothing on a flat hard surface or wear it and wipe the fur off with the rubber glove. I've tried anti-static sprays, liquid fabric softener, fabric softener sheets...not sure any of it really helps a whole lot.

I don't believe there are any supplements to prevent shedding.

Lol! But as Amy said, there is no way to prevent shedding. The best thing to do would be to control it on a daily basis to keep it at a minimum around the house. It is very normal for them to shed for months at a time.
Most of our home is carpeted so we invested on a decent vacuum (Shark) and vacuum daily as much as we can. We also keep several lint rollers for days that we really do have to be furless.
You can also limit off some spaces where you REALLY don't want fur.
You can also invest in a good brush to help remove some of that fur outside and as Amy said, maybe a good blowdryer to get rid of some of it.

Hahaha I'm currently on that phase of my life right now. I guess I just have to vaccum and vaccum and vaccum my way through this. But is it true tho that fish oil can improve dogs coat health? What is the dosage for a 45lbs (20.5kg) dog?

Is there a problem with her coat? If not, really no need to supplement is you feed good quality food.

i would ask what food are you feeding,and how much food, how often are you brushing and what are you using to brush her, are you bathing her often? does her skin look ok?

as for the fur, we just deal with it, we have tile and laminate on 90% of our home so i just pick it up by hand when it balls into an area, we vacuum once a week on the area rugs and floors. I just don't care about the fur anymore, its just everywhere.

Huskies do blow their coats in chunks that can seem scary but it is normal, my boy is like that, giant cotton balls off his body till his undercoat is gone and his guard hair is left and he feels not so soft anymore till the undercoat comes back it. my girl does not blow chunks she had constant fur just coming off her and only some areas are pluck-able.

Ahhh - I've been wondering about Ami's coat. It's rougher than usual - I attributed it to summer sun damage and 2 anti-skunk treatments with peroxide and baking soda last spring but what you said about no under coat after coat blow makes perfect sense.
