Jack and I headed out for what most likely will be our last summits this season (we did this hike Oct.8 ). Sticking with my theme of bagging multiple summits a trip we headed out for 2-13ers. The E made it up (with my mad driving skills) a rough 4W drive road that took 45min going 5mph, it was the longest dirt road ever to the Waldorf Mine where we parked. I have a ton of pics because the views were amazing, but i picked my fav for here. It took us 4h 50m to do 5 miles RT and we gained 2,322ft of elevation. We chilled on both summits taking pictures, looking at all the mountains we have been on and soaking in the sun on a wonderful Saturday in Oct. on the mountains.

Hope you enjoy:

You guys have the best life! I love these pics. Just beautiful. How cold is it? I mean I see there's snow, but you don't look too bundled up and the sun is out, but is it like pretty cold? Scenery is awesome.

Beautiful pictures, Jennifer! Nice to savor the end of the season.

I don't see trail markers - here there are blazes on the trees to mark the trails (though sometimes they make no sense at all Rolling Eyes ) Do you use GPS or are you familiar with the area and just know where to go?

Jimmy, i was sweating on the way down, i also was wearing my thermal top as i was not sure how the wind would be up there but it ended up being a wonderful weather day! I had colder summer hikes then this one!

Amy, i have a GPS unit i use that i have pre loaded a track into either from others or i create one on the maps and load it to the unit. All my trails on 13ers do not have marked trails, some times there are cairns but not all the time. the 14ers have mostly well marked foot trails.

i wish i had time this weekend to get up there but we have prepping for family pics next week. dogs need baths and i need my hair done! hoping the snow comes soon ready for winter activities but i also use the next 2 months to deal with life on the weekends before i hit the trails agian

Jennifer - I was thinking of getting one of those hiker's gps units for Wayne to play around with (he loves plotting out routes on the trail maps we purchase or download.) But then I went looking...they seem to be in the $300-500 range. At the time I was looking Wayne had just recovered from a gout attack and into what turned out to be 6 weeks with an achilles tendon problem. And, with my own recurring foot things, not sure investing that much money into a tool for hiking is a good use of money. However, now we are both ambulatory again so.....
