| Her skin is fine, I believe. She doesn't itch more than a normal dog does and I don't generally see dandruff in her hair (if anything, Koda has it, not Hailey), but her fur is a lot more white than Koda's so it just might be hard to see.
Why? What are you thinking? I'm happy to ask my vet any questions. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Well, there are a few endocrine problems than can manifest in the same way - and effect the vision. Typically they eventually develop drying or scaling skin..even blackened skin in the worst of cases. I'm thinking it's a good idea to run a full panel on that, and I personally would send out a blood sample to Dr. Jean Dodds with Hemopet. I'd run a full thyroid panel with her.

| I don't know what happened to my reply but apparently it never posted!
Anyway, I do hope you are closer to a diagnosis tomorrow, when you bring in a fresh sample of urine. I think you have your info straight, as from what I can remember when I was going through it with Storm.
Gosh, Hailey's situation sure sounds so similar to Storm! I had to catch urine first thing in the morning, run blood tests, urine tests, etc which all came back negative for just about everything we could think of that would remotely have similar symptoms.
The desmopressin that I had Storm on did cost $85 for one Rx fill, and that was the eye drop form that came from out of state because it was the least expensive they could find. Other places ranged up to $150 per bottle. Storm was a pill about doing eye drops at the time and some of the drops ended up on his face instead so we found the pill form at Costco (of all places) and it was $80 (I forget for how many pills). We went through about 2 or 3 fills of this Rx.
When I had to catch urine from Storm first thing in the morning, it was more concentrated but still not in the normal range.
I know this is the frustrating part - not knowing what it is - because you don't know how to treat it.
I am hoping for the best possible outcome for Hailey!

| Not the news we were hoping for Urine was really dilute. More so than yesterday. She's going in Monday morning for an ultrasound to check for kidney failure and proper organ functioning. officially a bit worried. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Hailey went in this morning. So cute. She loves the doctor and he went to take her and said, "Okay, Hailey, let's go!" and she turned right around and started trotting towards us instead of the doctor like it was a regular visit. It just kills me when we can't explain to them what's going on.
Koda has been staring at me since I got home waiting for me to pull Hailey out of my pocket. So cute.
Dr. Elson almost seemed to be leaning towards diabetes insipidous at this point. Could have been just to make us feel better because that is really our best case scenario. However, we have a game plan for each situation:
Kidney Failure: See what our doc says for options and make an appointment with the Holistic Veterinary Center in Clifton Park for options on a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment.
Diabetes Insipidous: Search for a cheaper version of the medicine either at Costco (but the closest is in CT, but that's also by my parent's house so we could probably work something out) or another locale (maybe BJs or Sam's Club has it).
Either way, I hope to have a treatment plan by the end of today.
Dr. Elson said we'd know before noon. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| It sounds like you're going through almost exactly what I went through with Storm. Diabetes Insipidous would be the better of the two scenarios you mentioned. The meds would be expensive, but if Hailey's condition/issue is similar to Storm's, she'll got through one or two rounds of meds and hopefully that's that.
Fingers and paws crossed for the best for Hailey!

| Oh guys, I wish I had better news to report Her right kidney is definitely smaller than her left and they noticed some inflammation from the medulla (interior) of the same kidney. Right now, we're trying to find out what is causing the inflammation. The good news is that could be as simple as a kidney infection, which they will try to discover by a longer, more comprehensive urine culture that should take about 3 days (since she has been on antibiotics already for several infections, it would likely be a "buried" infection and so she needs a more comprehensive culture to tell us for sure). If that comes back negative, we're back to our previous two options: some sort of kidney failure or diabetes insipidus. I guess that the architectural changes in her right kidney and the inflammation are small enough that it could be a red herring and just a birth defect that she was born with. So, the vet is still discussing with some specialists to try and rule this out. Until we know for sure, there's nothing we can do but wait On the brighter side, she was a perfect angel for the vet. I guess they didn't even really need to anesthetize her, lol. She just laid there for him the whole time. Sometimes, she's seriously the best dog ever. Wish I had more concrete news to report Just more of the same... _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Oh Tori, that sucks. Not having a definite diagnosis is awful. I've been going through that with Saber for the last couple of years. All you can do is take it one day at a time. I truly hope you can get some answers soon. Best wishes to you and Hailey. |
