| Poor Hailey! Get better soon! It would kill me too if Ginger EVER got sick in the slightest!
(I just about worried my butt off when she went thru her diarreha issue!)

| Poor Hailey, hopefully the stronger meds will clear her up. We had this problem with Faith's anal gland infection. They put her on amoxicillin for a week and it did not work, she got worse in fact. So I took her back to the vet and they put her on stronger antibiotics, Cephalexin and Metronidazole, and that actually did clear her up in a matter of days, she was on the stronger meds for 2 weeks after being on the weaker Amoxicillin for a week...so 3 weeks total on antibiotics. Feel better soon, Hailey! _________________ |

| We only had the ammoxicillin for about 5 days. She was doing great and then HUGE step back today... so now onto Cephalexin for us too. Poor Hailey just lays in front of the door to go out all day. Koda was keeping her company today... _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| No accidents last night and it's 10:15... so that means that she's held it in for about 3 hours now (yesterday it was every 2 she had to go out) so it looks like this antibiotic is working too! Let's just hope it lasts... _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| She peed again last night Now I'm all concerned. I have a vet appt at 11am. She finished the meds and was fine. I'm just freaking out because we're leaving on vacation on Saturday. I've never even left them alone this long let alone with Hailey being sick Could it be another infection? How likely is that after 2 months? I'm having a hard enough time leaving them alone for 5 days, let alone with Hailey not well! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| We're headed to the Dominican Republic from Sunday - Friday, but we're leaving on Sat since we're stopping at my aunt's who's driving us to the airport (flying out of NYC).
My MIL is staying here Saturday-Monday morning. Amy, John's cousin and one of my best friends, is coming Monday morning to feed and take them to daycare on Monday. Pet sitter is picking them up from Daycare on Monday and doing evening feed. Then they're alone at night. Amy will be by every morning for an hour, then the pet sitter will come for an hour at lunch and dinner. They've been doing well left loose alone (up to 8 hours) so we're letting them loose and crating alternately. Wednesday night my in-laws are also coming to cook dinner here, walk them, and give them some QT. We're back on Friday night.
Headed out soon. Will update you all as soon as I get back! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Waiting for urine results. Vet said everything feels normal on the inside...all her organs and such. He doesn't seem worried. He said her pee area did look a little irritated. He thinks its just another infection, which isn't normal, but not unheard of, especially at this time of year with all the moisture.... _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| So she has a mild infection. What was concerning is that there are crystals in her urine. The vet said that it could be a cause or an effect of the infection. So he gave us the same antibiotics as last time. Once the antibiotics are done, we'll do another urinalysis and see if the crystals are still there. If they are gone, it was just another infection. If they are still there, we'll be looking into PH supplements and/or diet change. He said that the two infections were unrelated... the first was more kidney related whereas this one was more bladder/ph related. He asked what we were feeding and I told him TOTW Pacific Stream. He knew right away that it was grain free and said that was good. He said that grains can often be the cause of PH issues and since we're not feeding a grain-diet, he seemed to think it was just another infection. He said that both are common and both are commonly found sporadically in dogs. He wasn't concerned in the slightest and I asked him if there were other possibilities... if we should/could do an ultrasound, etc. He said he was not concerned or worried that it was anything more serious and said that none of that was necessary at this time. So... here's hoping that the meds clear up all symptoms and she's good to go. She's been an expensive girl the last two months _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| well at least the doc. did not think it was a huge concern and i guess Hailey is just having a bad month or 2... sierra has been like that, she is great for like ever then back to back things happen. Hailey will bounce back and i hope it all clears up so its not on your mind while your on vacation! do you have to adjust your people visits so she can have her meds or does it still work out fine? you have quite the line up there of people coming by, your lucky to have that. we are testing a 2nd dog sitter next week when ken and i take a night off for our 2yr ann. we are meeting her next sun. off of Claudia's recommendation. _________________ |

| We used this pet sitter in Saratoga and she has been here to check-in with us again since we moved. We loved her... she sent us picture messages of the dogs when she was here and texted us after every visit. She was just great and the dogs love her. My MIL likes to stay here weekends when we are gone... I think she likes the quiet and enjoys the cuddle time with the huskies... and Amy is helping us out to save a little money since the pet sitter is costing $200 for the week. Amy is great with them and has taken care of them before. So yes... we do have a lot of resources and are trying to get the dogs used to everyone so that we have options. I'm so nervous about the honeymoon! We might find a friend/ask someone to house sit for us the whole time... just gotta figure out who at the moment. And yes... I really like this vet and he definitely put me at ease. We won't know the end results until well after we get back. The meds last about 2 weeks I think. ETA: If the meds don't clear her, I have a lot of research to do... so if anyone has dealt with this, I'd love to know people's thoughts. I'd much prefer to do a holistic approach/dietary supplement before I were to take on a prescription diet from the vet. So if anyone knows of any natural supplements or holistic approaches, I'd be all ears. We don't have a holistic vet around here _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Ginger had crystals in her urine once and it was due to bladder/ph inbalance and it happened right around the time she had a major dental cleaning done, and right before she had her diarreha issues. So I'm not sure what the exact cause was. The anitbiotics cleared it right up even before she was done with the Rx. Our vet wasn't too concerned with it either. _________________ |

| Not happy that she has an infection but it is a relief to know that it is something relatively simple. It is comforting to know that the vet is not overly concerned. And even if she does have to deal with stones or crystals in the urine it can be managed. Just a couple months ago a friend of my mother-in-law came to me asking for advice on how to manage her dog who had just come off meds to clear up crystals in the urine. So my list of advice to her is still plenty fresh in my mind! But it is common for dogs with an infection to have crystals for in the urine that go away with treatment so I can see why the vet is not overly concerned at that prospect. I don't know if you remember but I believe Tiffany from the other forum (owner of Izzy, Koozie, and Keno) had an issue with struvite crystals in the urine for one of her dogs...can't remember which one though. Anyway, I have written down in an email that I sent to my MIL's friend about preventing stones without meds or those awful prescription diets which I can share with you if you want later on if there is an issue. If she does have crystals you need to know if they are Struvite or Oxalate because how you manage the diet will depend on which type she has. Struvite is more common and easier to manage through diet. I think I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here but it would be good to know if this is a problem since I recently researched the topic of urine crystals and the info is still fairly fresh in my mind. How long before the vet re-tests? _________________ |

| Thanks, Val! The meds are 10 days, so when we get back from vacation, I'll take her urine in for testing again. I'll definitely be sure to ask which type of crystals they are as I plan on doing a lot of research. I appreciate the help! I'll keep you all posted _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I'll PM you the list of preventative measures for Struvite crystals that I sent to my MIL's friend. This way you'll have it as a reference just in case you ever need it. _________________ |

| I went back to check Ginger's vet records back in September when she had crystals in her urine, and unfortunately, that did not have the breakdown of her urine analysis and possible causes. I do see we went back 7 days later to re-test and she was fine.
