So here's my concern. I'm moving from Colorado down to Texas in a few weeks and I have a 5 month old Siberian Husky. I've never lived in the desert and I'm a bit worried that Goku won't do well in that weather. Anyone have more insight on this or any tips?

@aljones and @MiyasMomma both live in that kind of area in Texas. Your routine will likely have to change a bit to let your pup do more things in the early morning or at night but Huskies are adaptable to live just about anywhere.

While huskies may not prefer the heat, they can do just fine there.

During the warmer parts of the year, make sure you limit heavy activities to early morning and late evenings to avoid the heat. May need to adjust your own schedule for this.

If he's an outside dog, make sure he has plenty of water to drink, shade to stay cool, and maybe a pool to cool off in.

If he's an inside dog, the AC will help, but don't make it too cool for him. You want him to acclimate to the warmer weather, and if he gets used to a super cool inside temp, outside temps may be too hot then. Also, make sure you have lots you can do with him inside to help burn off the excess energy these dogs have.

Frozen treats and toys are a great way to stay cool. Ice cubes, freezing treats/meals in ice, freezing toys in large blocks of ice, soaking rope toys in broth and freezing them.

Grooming is very important. Brush often to help remove any excess hair, but do not shave. Shaving huskies is very bad for heat tolerance.

Expect a ramp up in activity during the winter months when the temps finally get down to a comfortable level.

Hi JBee, welcome to the forum and when you get here, welcome to the Great State of Texas - it took me 30 years to figure out I was *really* a Texan but I've been here for 40 after I did.  

If you don't mind if I ask what part of the state you're coming to.  Texas is big enough that the climate can vary more than just a little.

@kmanweiss made some excellent comments so I won't expand on them.  Water and shade, as he says, are absolute requirements.  My pups handle 100f and higher - but they also stay inside most of the daylight hours.
