| Wow, have I had a frustrating day with these two! First of all, I slept horrible because Kody decided to be up half the night. He had gotten better...don't know what happened to him last night. Finally, i give up and get up at 6:15, feed them, and while they're eating jump in the shower. I come out all nice and clean to let them out so that they can play and Mya decides to start digging and Kody proceeds to roll around in the dirt that she's kicking up. They were covered in dirt!!!! Of course cleaning them is no easy task whatsoever!!! I broke a sweat and everything. If they would listen to me at some point in their lives it would be nice! Then, walking Kody after work and trying to train him to walk next to me and not pull and not pick up everything he sees is a PAIN IN THE A$$!!! I know that it takes time, but I just wanted to cry at park! I get home after his walk (I had taken Mya before) and let them in the yard for a bit. I had to pee really bad (sorry for sharing that part..LOL), but i figured let them out for 5min and bring them in. YEAH RIGHT!!! HOLY FREAKING MOLY ARE THEY STUBBORN!!!! Kody is getting worse than Mya. THEY DO NOT LISTEN TO ME! It's like I'm talking to the damn wall! How in the world do you train them to come in the house when called????? I do the treat/carrot thing and they come when they feel that they want it, but other than that it's like i'm not even there! I sat there about to pee in my pants because I won't leave them outside alone and cried for a few minutes Finally they came in and are now laying down. I get to cook dinner now too. JOY TO THE WORLD!! Sorry for venting and I love my dogs SO MUCH, but wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| I feel your pain. Mine do the same thing sometimes. I think I'm going to start putting a long line on them and let them out one at a time, so I can just pull them back in. lol. Elara isn't as bad, but Siku thinks she should be allowed to spend the whole day outside. Oh and they've started digging like crazy too. Just gave them both baths yesterday and today they both were digging and getting covered in dirt. As for the pulling, the only thing I've found that really helps with Siku is a gentle leader. I know it's just a training tool and should eventually be weaned off of it, but it works great to keep control of her for now. Keeps me sane too! lol. _________________ -Sara |

| Oh girl - you are NOT ALONE in this battle. The bruise on my belly from his nip while I was trying to get Nikolai in last week can speak to that. It's not easy. I guess I should just count my blessings I only have to deal with one stubborn dog, not two. ;-) Anyway, I think a long lead is a good idea - reel 'em in if they're not listening. Also, have a very high value treat - maybe a Kong or Butcher's Bone to give them if they come to you on their own?
As for walking, I read this article by Pat Miller and it helped. My takeaway was set them up for success and reward, reward, reward... they'll get it. Last night on my walk with Nikolai, he pulled pretty hard while we were working on a tight heel. His pace and my pace just don't mesh all that well. When I let him have the rest of the 6' lead, he walked like a perfect gentleman for the last half of our walk. My 96 year old grandmother could have walked him... it was awesome. |

| lol mine come in too on the first whistle! Cheyenne likes to lag behind but she's stopped that more and more since i've left her out quite a few times Compromising works really well with my dogs. If they're misbehaving on a walk they are "punished" by having to walk next to mommy in a hell for a few minutes. Once they're behaving I let them back to loose lead. Works really well. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

lol i have no idea, i just say "embry, zoey come" and they come running. I think they hate the outside No it probably helps that they know after they go potty twice a day they get fed after, or that after they go potty we go to the dog park. it definitely helps. |

Mine will come in on the first call two times only: first thing in the morning and around 4ish in the evening and it's only because they know they're getting fed soon. Any other time during the day, forget it. I just leave them out there longer. I'm not playing the "I come get you" game. If I really need them to come inside though, a jar of peanut butter ALWAYS gets Koda in. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Kate, wow that article is awesome! I think I need to get me one of those clickers! It gets a little confusing, but i think if i read it again I can do it. Hmmm in a perfect husky world I would be able to train Kody to walk on the left and Mya on the right so that I can actually take them both..LOL!!!
Yep, the morning Kody (not Mya..grrr) comes running in because he knows he's going to get fed. He pees, doesn't even poop or sniff, to come stand in the kitchen..lol. Mya is by far worse! I always have to say "treat" for them to come, but grrrrrrr I don't want to have to bribe them to come in. Mya sometimes doesn't even care for the treat because she knows that it's just so that she comes inside.
STUBBORN!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Koda will do anything for peanut butter. When he gets loose, I grab a jar and run.
Koda is A SUPER SNOT in the snow. If he's not ready to come in, and I poke my head outside to call them in... after I call them, I'm not kidding you, he looks STRAIGHT AT ME and lays down in the snow. Watching me the whole damn time just so that I know that he heard me, he's just choosing to stay outside.
No joke. My dog is a stubborn mule and a bratty one at that! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

No joke. My dog is a stubborn mule and a bratty one at that! Do we have the same dog? Nikolai does the same thing (not in the snow so much, but when he doesn't want to). SOOOOO annoying!! Hopefully all this training we're doing will help adjust his attitude a bit. ;-) |

| Here's her wearing her gentle leader. It's like a horses halter and turns their head so they can't pull very hard. _________________ -Sara |

LOL! I think Ginger is broken too! She does like to lay in the cool, wet grass or snow...but after she's done with her 'business', she'll come running back up to the door. If she goes to lay in the grass/snow, I just open the door and say, 'Come on' or 'Inside' and she'll come right on in! _________________ |

| Melissa, if you're going to use a head collar I would recommend getting the Canny collar over the Gentle Leader or the Halti. The Canny may cost a bit more (at least double) but I think the design is better and will prove more effective. And also be sure to read up on how to fit and use them properly too. Here's past thread with discussion on head collars that you might find helpful: Halti collar_________________ |
