Hey there,
I'll be a proud owner of a 2 month old husky in 4 weeks time.
Can't wait to have her but i'm a little baffled on what food to buy her.
I've been told different things and most people say to try wet food food and gradually introduce her to dry?

I'm also in the UK, so i would like something i can preferably buy over here Smile

Hi Abby and welcome to the forum.  You'll find that most of the crowd is off enjoying the weather over the weekend so it may be tomorrow before you get a reasonable response.  Though the last time I said that someone chimed right in ... who knows?

You'll find - or as you've said, you've found - that the answers to food questions are everything from "You have to feed RAW!" to "It doesn't matter, just whatever she'll eat".  Obviously the answer lies somewhere 'tween the two.  *Some* Huskies are finicky about what they'll eat, some are allergic to certain grains / additives, some will eat everything.

The best suggestion I can offer, for the nonce, is to continue with whatever the breeder is feeding her, that's one less transition that she's going to have to make when you bring her home.  *However* most (non-professional / non-kennel) breeders feed crap food so as soon as she's settled you'll want to change her off to a better quality food.

Here in the US we have Dog Food Advisor and many of the formulations are the same so it *might* also be a good reference for you. One of our European members also recommended a site which I think was All About Dog Food (and I'll stand corrected if it wasn't).  These might be good places to start looking after the young miss has had a chance to settle in.

Grain-free brands and I think Huskies do best on high protein. My girl is on "Taste Of The Wild" (Roasted Bison & Venison puppy) and it's the best "reasonably" ($48 w/ tax for 30lb bag) priced healthy dog food. I always get comments on how muscular she is and how soft. Smile

Edit: Not sure if they have it in stores in the UK, but it can be bought on Amazon.

We have always kept the pups on blue buffalo wilderness blend (although I know a lot of people lost confidence in them post purina law suit). Not sure if they sell or ship to the UK, but it's available on Amazon, chewy.com, etc like Aryagirl mentioned.

My basic rule of thumb (per out vet and online research) is to make sure to read the ingredient list and aim to buy a food that has their protein listed first, and avoid grains. Ive also been weary of chicken based blends too-I think some other people may be able to guide you better there though. If I remember I think it was this forum that j read huskies are sensitive to chicken? Our Mia can eat grilled chicken, but every chicken based treat or food we tried have her tummy issues. So maybe avoid that?

Best of luck!

I wouldn't get wet food to feed her unless that is what she is already on when you pick her up. Find out what the breeder has her on, get a little of that, and then mix it with whatever you are planning to feed her to transition her over to the new food a little at a time. At 8 weeks old your puppy should be on dry food by then so no need to feed wet food unless you are looking to feed some kind of homemade raw full time.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi!
I'm in the US so it may vary but I always got told to put your dog on something without fillers. Just the ingredients and make sure it's all natural. Then high protein if you want to build muscle, just make sure your active with them, and grain free to help their coat.

My little girl is on "Taste of Wild" salmon puppy formula and she loves it. It's grain free and natural. For it being a healthy dog food it is reasonably priced. I agree with that statement above.

I watch "Gone To The Snow Dogs" and one of their videos she explained that you wouldn't want nasty tasting food so neither would your dog. Or something along those lines.

But I've always had my dogs on "Taste Of Wild".

Hey everyone,

Thank you for replying to me.
I've had a look in my local pet shop and ive been reading the back of food packages. There's quite alot of food that is suitable for husky dogs. I'm going to ask the breeder in a weeks time when we visit her again what she's been feeding her.

Thank you so much for the replies and i'm sure i will be posting more questions on here, so i apologise in advance for being a pain haha.
