Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Mia came to us with her name. We thought about changing it, but as we are a Biligual English and Spanish speaking household, Mia fit, since it means "my" or "mine" (feminine) in Spanish, and it was my idea to get her in particular.

Luka, on the other hand... We had the name picked out months earlier. We planned to get a puppy about 4 months later than we did, but circumstances just fell into place with him so we brought him home early. We knew we wanted to have a Russian name, since both of our families have a strong Russian heritage (my grandfather immigrated to the us as a boy, and my hubs family immigrated to Argentina around WW1 and WW2). We were torn between Dmitri, Leonid, or Luka. Dmitri we nixed because we thought that would be a good name for us if we ever have a (human) son. We really liked Leonid, but the hubs didn't want to call him Leo for short ("but babe he's not a lion he's a wolf"). So we were left with Luka, which means light. We think it fits him pretty well-he's really brought Mia out of her shell in ways we never expected. And he's a little ray of sunshine with us too. Very Happy

When we brought home ours, her name was Winnie, but she had no idea. You could call it all day without her noticing, so we wanted to change it.

Since she's a Russian/Nordic breed, we wanted a Russian-inspired name. We went through a bunch of names like Natasha, Sonya and others, but eventually landed on Anya because it had a nice sound and she seemed to respond well to the soft "A" at the end. She learned her new name quickly!

I always like the name Mia for a girl! Luka is nice, unique you don't hear it often. I tend to lean towards more unique sounding names.

We got Klaus' (KLOWS) name from the show The Vampire Diaries. The character was a vampire/werewolf hybrid, and the strongest Wink The full name was Niklaus, but Klaus for short. It was the only time we ever heard the name and we just loved it. It's a German name, based off of Nicholas.
