Subject: Crying or talking? Wed Apr 13, 2016 11:49 am
Loki is 11 weeks old now, we have been going on regular walks, but he hasn't really met anyone on these walks since the weather has been so cold. Today on our walk a couple was walking and stopped to pet the dogs. Loki was making a sound that was similar to his let me out of my crate cry, but he was trying to jump on the woman and was licking her. SO now I am just confused, was he upset and a little scared or was he just trying to talk? We have training class tonight, now I am worried if having so many people and dogs around him is going to be upsetting, normally I wouldn't be too worried but we are talking about kids that will be handling the dogs, not adults.
Did anyone else's puppies behave like this and should I be worried?
He was excited. My male does the same after a long winter of not seeing many people. When they aren't socialized much with strangers they tend to lack manners or the know how to deal with the excitement they feel so it has to come out some way. Some whine and cry, some jump uncontrollably, some bark, some even do all of it. With socialization and teaching of what is acceptable he will work past it.
That's good to know! If one of my shelties did this I would be very concerned, I was hoping it was just normal husky behavior.
I have been trying to get him out to greet new people, since he came from a farm and I know he didn't have much socialization, but this darn weather has not been cooperating it is supposed to be 70 this weekend, perfect weather to go to the park!
Sounds like he was excited. My pup does this. I've never had a dog this vocal.

Yea, i would say hes just vocalizing his excitement. One thing that can really help is to watch his ears. They tell you so much about what is happening, much like the tail. When he gets excited to meet people if he lays his ears back and has a wagging tail trying to give licks hes just really happy and excited.
First class went great! Loki was happy to meet everyone and their dogs. I cant believe how adventurous this pup is he was not scared of the agility equipment at all.
The trainer had the teeter (short teeter) set up so that it dropped on to the pause table, then a ramp leading off, the tunnel was scrunched up short, and the weave poles were set far apart, and a couple of jumps set up. Loki did everything with no fear, except for the jumps, we wouldn't let him do them.
Our trainer also said he has a ton of harnesses laying around so when Loki is old enough he will fit him and give us a harness!
That's awesome! I want to get mine into agility. Where did you find a class? Kai did an agility course at a pet expo and aced it! Fastest dog to complete the course! (On her second attempt she decided she was done and ran off the course).
@jenah there are a couple of agility places sorta near you (remember I'm in Texas, "near" is very relative) but one that looks good to me is Go Dog Agility. Of course they're also trainers, which is a good thing, I think.
Beware of getting a Husky into agility though ... sometimes they do this:
This has been posted before but it's so cute and so very typically Husky!

HAHAHA im dying! I just watched that at work and I swear people think i'm crazy. I love the judges (?) reaction at 1 min 25 seconds or so. Such a husky thing to do. I will try to find the video of my kai running off the course and post it when i get home.
