| I haven't brought my puppy, Taco, home yet and they are only about two weeks old so they haven't started a certain brand of food yet so I'm just trying to get a feel for what we should feed him when we bring him home. I have had dogs my whole life and we have always fed them Eukanuba (which doesn't get good reviews on Dog Food Advisor) and they have always been fine. Do huskies tend to have more food sensitivities than other breeds? What are some signs I should be looking for that the food isn't doing well for Taco? I can't afford a top of the line dog food and I feed my cats Purina One (also doesn't get good reviews on Dog Food Advisor) and they are doing great. I want to do what is best for my puppy but I also don't want to break the bank doing it. |

| Grain free food is usually what works best for huskies. Many have grain allergies and this will show in dandruff, poor or runny poops, and excessive itching. Some even get rashes. I feed Diamond Naturals. The version I feed gets okay reviews on dog food advisor (about the same as Eukanuba). I've never had a problem with my dogs eating it either. Many here feed Taste of the Wild. It is a solid food for around what you are probably paying for Eukanuba. I am actually thinking about switching to it myself. There are many flavors to choose from and they do have a puppy specific blend. _________________ |

| Jenn said it all.....some dogs do fine on a grain inclusive food others do not. Mine is one of those dogs that can not eat grains. So grain free is also my suggestion. Depending on what's available to you, as in stores will determine the cost. I have a Tractor Supply and have several options available to me. I do feed TOTW, and have been very happy with their line, I do check for recalls, but anymore any product can have a recall. To add on to Jenn's suggestion, and mine, TOTW does offer 2 puppy blends, and several adult blends, that has been a huge plus to me, since both of my girls get tired of the same flavor, so I do rotate within the brand, and have so successfully. Many other brands do not offer the selection that TOTW does. The biggest difference between grain inclusive foods and grain free, on grain free you will feed less. The biggest issue for new husky owners is over feeding, so pups have pudding poops. Most huskies require and do best at 20-25% less food than the bag recommendation. If TOTW is out of your budget range give a yell, and we can give you some other grain free options at a lower price. |

| Oh boy! The food issue! YAYYY! My least favorite chapter of my puppy's life. Thank God I found this forum early on. Just so you know, if you shop at PETCO, they accept open bags of food for exchange. |

| I have a few suggestions for brands to check out when you want to feed a quality food but are on a budget.
- Victor
- 4Health
- Diamond Naturals
- Exclusive
Not necessarily in that order. You can find Victor and Diamond Naturals on Chewy.com. Their prices are really good. I haven't found another place that has cheaper prices (which isn't to say they don't exist, just that I haven't found one yet). 4Health is only available through Tractor Supply, as far as I know. You can pick it up in store or order through their website. I recommend using Google to see if there's one in your local area if you're not sure. I thought we didn't have one where I live. Then I found out that we not only have one, it's right across the street from a store I shop at all the time! I felt a bit silly about that. |

| Also to add, if you have a Costco Nature's Domain is a quality food at a good price.....fyi...Diamond Naturals, TOTW, Nature's Domain, 4 Health all are Diamond products, all are good quality, and all at a reasonable price. |

| I buy pure balance from Walmart. Reasonably priced, good ingredients, grain free. My dogs love it. I have no complaints. |
