anyone feed their dogs raw venison?
it's like crack to my dog, but seems like he gets the shits the day after I give him scraps of the trimmed meat when butchering the deer. Same thing happened when I gave him a leg bone and he devoured it. Venison is extremely lean meat so it not like he is eating too much fat..... Question scratch

The protein itself is rich, and it's considered a novel protein, in that most dogs are not exposed to it. Giving small amounts and work your way up. Miya has had raw venison burger and raw meaty bones, and never bothered her, don't know why.

btw, try cooking it or lightly cooking it and see if it still bothers him. And Congrats on the deer. Smile

Venison is super rich and should be fed in moderation or mixed with blander proteins.

I am getting my hands on a ton of venison right now but I will be spacing it out with the meals I put together once it's been frozen for a few weeks.

ok must be the raw factor, cooking doesn't bother him really. When I get a deer I've been grinding up all the stuff that I don't want to use for myself, roll it out flat and make a ton of cooked dog jerky/treats from it. vacuum seal and save for later and use for stocking stuffers for my dog friends! It's doggy crack for sure!

Yup - we live in the middle of hunting country. Lately, on our walks, Ami has scrounged a few pieces of scrap fat and bits of meat and he is in heaven. Wish my son would bag something besides a tree Rolling Eyes

lol!

My friend's husband gave me an entire deer carcass Tuesday. I need a saw to cut up the bones into manageable pieces but here I am in my driveway with a garbage bag, bucket, ice chest, a knife, and a deer. I can only imagine what my neighbors are thinking...

haha!  two weeks ago I had just gutted a deer next to the garage and there was snow on the ground so imagine the scene. not 10 minutes after I went inside, the meter man shows up to read the electric meter which was right where I had been working! Hopefully it scared him off enough to never come back and take a reading haha! (of course as soon as I open my door to let the dog out he makes a b-line to that spot and still licks the grass)
