Hi all. Have not posted here in a while. Sunday night while my wife was crafting our Nikita licked the thread while my wife was not looking and proceeded to swallow the thread and needle. It went down clean and was laying in her stomach. Two options, surgery or put her to sleep. This was a no brainer, she is a little sore from the surgery but is eating and drinking and of course sleeping. This was traumatic for me as I was 3 hours away at a hunting camp in Northern Wis. and was not there to help. So please all crafters out there, be carful. It can happen so fast.

so glad she is fine now, i have also heard to feed cotton balls so that the thread and needle will wrap around them and pass ok, again not a 100% grantee but an option.
I don't use hand needles much but Ken found on of my stick pins on the floor this past weekend

My wife went on line after she swallowed the needle and read about the cotton balls but we couldn't see how a 2.5 inch needle was going to pass through without getting caught on her colon somewhere. so my wife opted for emergency surgery as this was late on Sun. night. When something like this happens things turn a bit panicky. Nikita had the thread in her mouth with the needle hanging out, as soon as my wife jumped up to get the needle from her it was down the hatch. Anyway, she is doing fine, incision is looking fine and is starting to eat better. Wish she would drink more, but water mixed with a little milk helps. Any suggestions on health insurance for dogs ? This last incident wasn't cheap.

do a search on this site, i know there are a few threads going on pet ins. I just dont know off hand
