| Hello,
If the neighbors are putting poison out for voles and Willow chews on one, can the poison harm Willow? I caught her chewing on the hind leg of one, I am pretty sure it was only the hind leg as she wasn't out there very long. Than today, she picked up a whole one that was dead and I told her to leave it, she did. |

| I think it would depend on what kind of poison. In situations like this, I always recommend calling your vet and speaking to him or her. A phone call is free _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I don't know what kind of poison it is. I guess I shouldn't say neighbor, it is someone in the neighborhood. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with this. Thank you for your suggestion, I will call the vet on Monday. She isn't showing any symtoms from when she chewed on the hind leg, but she didn't have it for over a couple of seconds. |

| If you're concerned about poison, I would call now. Monday would absolutely be too late if there is something dangerous that could harm her.
I know that when Koda was chewing on a dead mouse he found in the basement of our old apartment, the vet did advise us to induce vomiting as a preventative measure. I would call and ask. Koda didn't have the mouse for more than a few seconds either, but he was definitely chewing on it.
I'm sure she's likely fine, but this isn't something you want to just wait until Monday about. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I think someone poisoned a rat and then it died in my back yard, or it might have gotten hit by a car. I saw it just before Siku grabbed it. It looked fine, except it had blood coming out of it's mouth. Siku, of course, thought it was the best thing ever and it took me a while to get it from her. She was fine. Your pup will probably be fine, but you might want to find the phone number to the nearest 24hr vet, since it's already late, just in case she starts acting weird. _________________ -Sara |

Short answer, yes it's possible that the poison can effect her quite seriously or even mildly in the form of an upset stomach. It will depend on the poison, potency, and amount ingested though. - Kimo wrote:

Based on this info I would think she will be fine and not require medical attention but do keep a very close eye on her and be prepared to take quick action if things go downhill. Like Sara suggested, I'd have the 24 hour E-vet's number on hand just in case. _________________ |

| Thank you all for your help. She is fine but I will find the 24 hr vet number and put it on my fridge. She won't be going in the back yard till we can get out there in the spring and go over the yard. Again, thank you. |

| Glad to hear he's okay!
If it were me, I would see if I could find out what poison is being used and if it's pet friendly. That's really crappy of the neighborhood to be poisoning animals and NOT sending notices out to the neighborhood. People have pets! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |
