| Well this is my first post and not the first thread I wanted to post on. Got my Husky on Sat and he got sick on Sunday and through Monday. I finally took him in last night and find out he has food poisoning. The breeder had him on Diamond food and I coulnd't find this kind so i got him Earthborn Holistic. I mixed this with some of the diamond food breeder sent me. The vet recommended Science Diet puppy food. Today he seems to be doing a lot better and had his first solid bowel movement. Anyone else ever have their puppy or dog get food poisoning? Could it be from something outside instead of his food?

| Hi Lance, welcome to the community! Not sure if you use amazon, but you can get Diamond food delivered from them. I'm not personally a fan of science diet. I know almost EVERY vet says its the best stuff, but I've had bad experiences with it. However, since he had a solid bm I wouldn't change anything for a while, give him a few weeks on the new stuff and then transition to something better, if you want to. As for the food poisoning, its probably just the food change and the stress of moving and a new environment. Stress can cause the runs too. I'm glad he's feeling better! |

| I haven't heard of a puppy getting food poisoning, however, I have heard many puppies having soft stools when they go to their new home. Earthborn Holistic is going to be a better food over Diamond and Science Diet, so if your puppy is doing better already, I'd stick with Earthborn. Make sure you make the transition slow as a rapid change in food can also cause an upset tummy. Try taking at least 2 weeks to make the transition, but if your puppy seems to go soft during the transition, stretch it out over 3 weeks instead.

| Sorry, I should clarify. I meant if he's on the science diet with a good stool, stick with that for a couple weeks then gradually transition to a higher quality food. If he's doing well on Earthborn Holistic then I too would stay with that. I couldn't tell from your original post if you put him on the science diet or not. |

| I was thinking of taking the earthborn back because vet said it probably caused then problem. I've heard bad things about science diet also. I'm guessing maybe the vet wanted me to buy the science diet. I have 15lbs if the stuff. |

| Well Loki is doing a lot better. Did have quite a few accidents last night, but that could be due to my wife and son coming home from a trip so he was pretty excited. I thought about putting him back on the earthborn food but might buy a new bag just in case the old one was bad. His stools are a bit more solid but not quite there yet. Now I just need to get him to quit crying in his kennel at night. Has been keeping me up with little sleep. Thanks for all the info. |

| I doubt he got food poisoning. Plenty on people here feed their pups raw chicken that probably had salmonella contamination at some point with no side affects. It's very unlikely that a commercially made food was contaminated and even if it was, your pup will just shed it in his feces. He was probably just stressed because his home changed and the upset stomach was a side affect. Some vets shouldn't be despensing nutrition advise, all they know how to do is push Science Diet. |
