I am typing this from my phone, so I apolgize in advance if there's some errors/typos! Also if I posted this in the wrong section im sorry....I was going back and forth between here and training.
I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced way over protective behavior from their huskies? I' did do fairly extensive research on the breed and nearly every where I read talks about how they are friendly with everyone and not guard dogs. Brady is a rescue and admittedly is very attached to me. But he is extremely protective and im concerned it will turn into aggression. He's never REALLY bitten anybody, but I don't have any doubt in my mind that if somebody really attacked me he would go after them. (As a disclaimer I do not encourage his over protective behavior).
its a little hard to describe what he does, but I'll try to explain it the best I can. He gets noisy and mouthy when somebody hugs or sometimes even approaches me. He doesn't really growl, but will make this crying sound and be mouthy towards my boYfeiend when he hugs me. He used to growl at my old roommate when he went to hand me something (like an iPad or my phone, etc). I never really thought too much of these things since it was always when somebody was touching me or reaching towards me, but today made me re evaluate my thought process. I was standing in the kitchen next to the fridge when my roommate closed the kitchen door and he went after her and put his mouth around her arm. Then about 30 minutes later she came into my room and was chatting. She literally just took a couple steps towards me (we were looking out the window) and he nipped her!
Does anybody else have an issue like this with their dogs? Im not really sure how to correct it either. I tell him "no", but it doesn't seem to sink in. Also in every other instance with these people (and pretty much all others) he is nothing but friendly! Am I overrracting? I just don't want this to turn into an issue that leads to an increased level of aggression.
